Minor Details: Games of September 16

A rough game for D. J. Baxendale costs the Lookouts.  Felix Jorge throws six shutout innings in a Kernels win.

The game:  Polanco singled home a run in the top of the third to put the Lookouts up 1-0, but it was all Shuckers after that.  Arcia hit a two-run homer in a three-run third that made it 3-1 Biloxi.  The Shuckers added single runs in the fourth and fifth and Rivera doubled home two in the sixth to pretty much seal the victory.  The Lookouts scored one more in the ninth but did not threaten to get back into the game.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, WEST MICHIGAN 0 IN WEST MICHIGAN--FINALS, GAME ONE

Batting stars:  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Max Murphy was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Felix Jorge pitched six shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Luke Bard struck out five in two perfect innings.  Randy LeBlanc struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Christin Stewart was 2-for-3 with a walk.  A. J. Simcox was 2-for-4.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when Austin Diemer singled in one run and Corcino doubled home two.  The Kernels added two in the eighth on a two-out two-run single by Murphy.  The Whitecaps mounted their biggest threat in the second, when they put men on first and second with none out.  A strikeout, a groundout, and a strikeout ended the threat, and West Michigan never had two men on base again.

Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-5 with a run.  T. J. White was 1-for-4 with a run.  Chris Paul was 1-for-4.
