  1. Not to derail a perfectly good leap year discussion (the answer is 19-20 on average, for what it's worth), but I wanted to touch base again on fantasy baseball. The league has 9 members so far, and I remember that someone else was interested, but not who.

So, if you are a returning team and haven't renewed yet, do that!

If you are interested in joining, send me an email at robzk at yahoo.

    1. I think it may have been me that was interested. I remember replying to a thread a while ago, but heard nothing after that.

  2. For IJ-ers who are preplexed by the chronology of the subsidized years, here's a tip: see page 223. I'm simultaneously amused and pissed off that DFW just drops in this totally useful little list at that point as if I've not been desperate for it from the beginning.

  3. Current Jucy Lucy Rankings:

Driftwood Mexican (kinda if it counts)
Blue Door the big mac one when it isn't over cooked
    Blue Door Blue cheese bacon
The Schwasnn' stuffed pizza burgers my mom used to buy
    Matts Bar

    Yet to have:
    Nook
    5-8
I think Happy Gnome has one? Probably won't get that there anyway.
I'm missing one here so help me out. Please?

    1. I've only had Matt's and 5-8 (and my own). Didn't care for 5-8, thought that was Champlin location.

    2. heh. I'm kind of a purist when it comes to cheese inside of a burger. I'll be happy to eat at matt's anytime I'm in the cities.

  4. As returns home go, this one is shaping up strangely. One brother will be out of town for 3-5 weeks and the other will be gone for 7-8 months (both for work). My best friend, whose home I'll be living in, won't be there for the first week I'm there, either. I'm leaving my immediate family and the people I was most relying on to distract me from the temporary separation won't be there.

The Milkmaid's work prospects are good. She's won several awards in her large facility (including employee of the year twice in the last three years) so a lot of companies are angling for her, and it seems like she'll be in a position to pick the one she wants most. The way things are going, I'd be surprised if I was away from them for more than a few weeks.

    1. Shorter the better yeah? I imagine the school stuff is tough, but not 100 and lakes are nice too!

  5. Also while I'm on the subject of food:

Lowbrow > Revival burger division (Ugh DeRusha). Don't get the highbrow though. Brie just doesn't bring it in the burger. Do get: everything else, especially Lowbrow burger, BLT, Skillets, oh and the Jalapenos Poppers. And during HH beer and nachos.
Revival's chicken is good, but not great imo. No matter what any TC lists say, don't get a burger. Mac was okay greens were good.
Blue door MSP is incredibly inconsistent. But we come back for the highs right? I haven't had the chance to have the lumberjack but I'm going to do my best soon.
Shakopee has an "irish joint," They're new but give them a few weeks.
I've been to Pike and Pint in Alexandria 3 time and the food has always been good, so skip the fast food.

    1. check is in the mail my friend! Next time ask for the founder... I might know that guy.

      1. Also, as a burger purist, I have avoided the Jucy Lucy, however, I compromised with a Crafted Beer Burger on the menu. Mix beer and smoked gouda with the ground beef, then top with Gouda Cheese and a mustard cream sauce. Both mine, and the boys, favorite burger.

        1. Might have been what I had, but I sampled from others' plates as well.
I don't remember specifics but that I enjoyed what I had and that we all agreed to come back.

  6. Have you tried Nighthawks yet? It was really good, and the portion sizes were unexpectedly huge.

  7. Fien, though, said one thing he's trying to add this year is more strikeouts, as he saw his strikeout rate drop from 10.6 batters per nine in 2013 to 7.2 in '14 and a career-low 5.8 in '15, despite posting a respectable 3.55 ERA in 63 1/3 innings.

I can't find the story, but I'm pretty sure that Fien was talking last year of reducing his pitch count by getting batters to put the ball in play more early in the count so he could stay out longer in games. At least he realized the problem with that strategy. The story on mlb.com has him talk about teams swinging early in the counts, which was a problem. Oops.

  8. Ian Desmond turns down a more than $15M qualifying offer from the Nats to sign a 1-year $8M deal with the Rangers but only after he agreed to switch to left field, so it's going to be hard for him to increase his value with a good year in Texas. I really hope he fired his agent.

    1. I just read that this came after he turned down a $100+ Million extension a couple years ago. $8 million is still an incredible amount of money, and way, way, WAY more than I could ever hope to make, but man, that has to be a tough decision to look back on.

  9. I learned yesterday that an old teammate and classmate from Carleton committed suicide on Saturday. I hadn't been that close to him, but it still hit home.
