2016 Game 1: Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles – Opening Day Edition

DAY GAME ALERT!

From hell's heart, we stab at winter: Baseball is back! The Twins open the year in Balmore, or at least they'll try to. Rain is threatening throughout the afternoon, so we'll see when/if the game starts. We've been waiting so long though that a little more waiting shouldn't hurt, right? Yeah, me neither...

Here are two teams on the bubble, with both expecting big things this year.  And judging by the poll in today's CoC, everyone is full of optimism!!!!11 Let's start things off on the right foot, eh?  Here's hoping the first the inevitable 162 game win streak is an entertaining one!

  1. From Phill Miller:

1 P.M. CT UPDATE: The forecast has slid a little bit, with light rain expected around 3, and the heavy stuff more likely closer to 5. “We should have played at noon,” manager Paul Molitor said.

  2. And this is after the National Anthem and all the pregame Opening Day ceremonies. I'm guessing they're going to wait this out as long as possible.

    1. I'm pretty sure this is the least half-baked gamelog I've ever seen. It sparkles and everything!

  3. the twitter machine tells me they are going to try to start again at 5:30 central time

    1. Also, Gameday strikezone has a new, grey, ambiguous wrapper around it. Is it in? Or is it out?

  4. I see the Twins are trying to make it easier to increase their pitches per plate appearance later in the season.

  5. I can see the game via the Fox Sports app using my parents' login. This is useful, if imperfect. Beggars and choosers and all that.

  6. Rickard didn't pay for that seat, not fair to try to take it from the fans.

    1. They're still around?
I have a copy of their mid-90's CD "Target" that I possibly have never listened to (I think it was a promo sent to the college newspaper), as well as a T-shirt.
Cheap white tee with bold all-caps sans-serif "I'M WITH TARGET" and then an arrow to the left or right. (Like an "I'm with Stupid").
At least I think I have both yet.

        1. I'm guessing they're back together (after a hiatus?).

          Album (EP) release years: 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, (2003), 2003, (2005), (2006), 2008, 2014, 2015, 2015.
1997 is the one I have. The 2006 EP looks like it was a Christmas EP.
The 2014 album was released on December 23, so it's close to having been last year.

          1. Yeah 3 within the last year would have been more accurate. I may have to get that Target release from you for a spell. Hard to find.

  7. Once upon a time not too long ago, Fien was the Twins' eighth-inning setup man. Now I think he could be pretty much the last of the right-handed middle relievers (or at least should be). Didn't really pitch all that badly other than the pitch to Jones for the two-run double. Other than that, a flare into right field and a ball just past the glove of Dozier.

  8. Also, I think it should be noted that the only reliever to pitch today that was in the bullpen on Opening Day last year was Fien. Pressly didn't come up till May and Trevor May was a starter. Jepsen came in a deadline trade and Abad was an offseason minor league signing. The new guys allowed 1 run in 6 innings with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.

  9. Ugh, I totes spookied the up the middle walk off single. I would have preferred the three run shot to end the game.
