April 24, 2016: Another Smokeless Year

Fourteen years now since the day I quit smoking (I had about a pack's worth over the next eight years or so after that; I usually feel the need to point that out to be honest with myself). I quit for a girl, but I married the girl, so I pretty much had to follow through with it.

  1. Going on ten & a half since I did the same thing, for the same reason. Congrats on the anniversary & your better health, Milkman.

  2. I quit for good finally about 10 years ago using the nicotine patch, but I'm a good example of too little, too late. My cardiologist told me that smoking for 20 years (and a genetic predisposition) is almost certainly what caused my coronary artery disease. It's always good to quit smoking, but even when you do there may be a piper to pay down the road.

  3. Any suggestions on helping your spouse stop smoking? I've been banned form suggesting that she stop as it seems to encourage arguments.

    1. If she doesn't want to quit, I don't know that there's very much you can do. Unless she's in complete denial, she has to know what the effects of it are. I think it's a decision she's going to have to come to (or not) on her own.

      1. Agreed. People rarely change because you convince them. Right now, your wife's motivation to continue smoking is higher than her motivation to quit. Validate, let her know you support her either way. If she shows ambivalence at some point, ask if she wants support.

    2. My dad tried to quit when he had kids, but failed. It was only 20+ years later when he had to quit to get bypass surgery, so he could get a kidney transplant that he succeeded.

  4. I also don't know what to do as I have the twins on the computer and the wild on my very own tv. holy sports telecasts batman.

    1. I'm handling it by putting some beers in a cooler, putting the NBA playoffs on an iPad and the Wild on the Fire out on the deck.

        1. You'd think with as much money as they make, they'd be able to afford refundable flights to Cancun.
