    1. More from LENNN:

The Twins will call up top pitching prospect Jose Berrios to make his major league debut on Wednesday against Cleveland.

Also, the Twins are going to call infielder Jorge Polanco back from Rochester , and indications are that Ervin Santana will be placed on the disabled list with a strained back.

        1. Gibson is in line for Wednesday so I guess he is put on the DL. Or someone else from their 25 14 pitchers is sent down. Tonkin perhaps?

  1. Anyone have tips on how to go about getting a good price on a rental car? I feel like this is something I should already know, but is there a website for comparing the prices of the different companies or something?

    1. I've used Hotwire for most of my car rentals and haven't had any complaints. You don't know which company it is with until you book though.

Kayak is my go-to site to do any comp shopping for travel.

      1. I used kayak for my last personal rental as well. Got a good rate using budget and got a free upgrade at the airport as well. I did use an American express card to rent it, which meant free insurance.

Outside of that, though, my car rentals are pretty much always for business, so cheap isn't really my main concern.

    2. I got screwed over in Ft Myers. I went with the one rental company that closed up at 11 and left me stranded at the airport.

    3. I rent infrequently enough that I don't care about loyalty programs, so I've used Priceline a lot in the past. If I can't win a bid with a meaningfully lower price than stated elsewhere online (kayak, etc.), then I just go with kayak or whatever.

  2. Thirty Years Ago Today: Chernobyl

Chernobyl fascinated & haunted me as a child and continues to do so today. It is one of the main events that contributed to my interest in the Soviet Union, and one factor in a combination of things that led me to study Russian & Soviet history. A few links:

    - The Atlantic – The Creatures that Remember Chernobyl

    - BBC – In pictures: Chernobyl's eerie exclusion zone 30 years on

    - National Geographic – Chernobyl's Radioactive Ruins Get a New Tomb, 360-Degree Photos: Experience Chernobyl's Ruins, & Video: Journey Inside Chernobyl's Exclusion Zone

    - The Wall Street Journal – Atomic City: The Town Chernobyl Built

I just checked Google Maps – Street View is available in Pripyat for remote urban exploration.

    1. I was also fascinated by Chernobyl, and really enjoyed the google street view tour. Thanks for the links.

    1. A real man would run some electrical and wire up a hand dryer? Pretty sure that's what he's getting at.
