  1. DAY GAMES ALERT: The Twins action starts early today, as Fort Myers, with Tyler Jay pitching, takes on Jupiter at 9:30 a.m. Central. If that's not enough, at noon Central Rochester is in Buffalo. Enjoy some day baseball!

    1. I specifically went back and edited that last night and my phone acted like it was done. I keep saying it's upgrade time, yet here we are.

          1. Wait...which one is it? I've always thought it was "Homke", but I do have a tendency to swap around letters.

  2. I was unaware of athletes doing this. I don't think I'd do it, but a) it's not like I'll ever have to make the decision, so it's easy to say, and b) I don't necessarily know everyone's situation to know whether it might make sense for someone or not.

    1. What I gleaned from this article is that Wall Street will do anything to open new bond markets for investors, and the investor class have so much money now they can't find enough investments for all of it.

      1. That's how I see it, especially for someone like Duffey that is still years away from making more than the league minimum. Think of how many pitchers with Duffey's track record never see a big free agent contract due to injury or some other circumstance.

      2. That and a chance for fans to play Fantasy Baseball with real money.
Plus, maybe people will stop complaining about how high players' salaries get when they might be invested in that cash stream.

  3. Tough day at work yesterday. On the way in I met a colleague on the way out and got the heads up on the situation. I was spared, but this goy has a much deeper appreciation for Passover today.

    1. Ugh, I've been there. Never a pleasant day, especially when it happens unexpectedly. I expected it to happen at my old place of employment, which is why I got out. It hasn't happened yet, but I did hear two other guys recently left.

      1. A couple jobs ago, we knew it was going to be a crappy day when a couple VPs suddenly showed up first thing in the morning. Those are awful days.

          1. I meant "increase in number of copies picked up from the free bin", which I suppose is readership, you're right.

    1. Sweet – congrats, Mags! A friend of mine plays in the People's Republic gay hockey league and loves it. Sounds like there's similar community in your league.

    2. Good call on wearing the shortest shorts. I think that's what got you to the front of the line!

      1. Honestly, it was because I taped my wrist. I tried to defer, but it quote "looked badass" unquote.

    1. This is a big deal. Thanks for sharing. I've been able to piece together enough streaming tv through password sharing and a few small subscriptions to make a nice little personal television package, but the one major hole has been lack of live Twins.

      1. The Fox Sports Go app has the Twins on it via my parents' cable package, but it's not Chromecast compatible unfortunately.

        1. Open Foxsportsgo on Chrome tab, cast that way?

I was doing the same, but it stopped working with the new update yesterday, which really sucked.

        2. My Droid Turbo can cast its screen to ChromeCast, so I was able to get it to work that way. Then I realized that if the game was on the app, it must be on TV too and it made no sense to do what I was doing.

  4. Headed home from the VA. Three polyps removed (same as last time). Ten days to get the labs back. This and the family history means I'm on a three year screening schedule.

  5. I don't know if anyone else does much 3D CAD work, but Creo can kiss my ass. I miss Inventor.

  6. I need help identifying a fungus I found while hunting morels yesterday-

'no, I didn't eat it' SelectShow
    1. It's gotta be in the cup fungus or false morel family.
Some are edible, some are very toxic (containing something found in Jet Fuel IIRC).
Did you pick it? If so, what did the base look like?

        1. From memory, there are no toxic cups but few worth eating.
And there are many toxic false morels and a lot of people still eat them and have no problems.
There are some false morels that look like cups.

    2. I haven't found any morels yet, but my hunting grounds are either poor producers or get cleaned up by people that only know morels.
I've gotten great hits out of just about every other simple-to-ID mushroom species I could expect: Chicken and Hen of the woods, Lion's Mane, Enoki, Dryad's Saddle (got 2 lbs fresh in the fridge), Shaggy Mane, Resinous Polypore,* Abortive Entoloma*. Oyster Mushrooms only so-so, but good on the "Late Oysters".

*Apparently named by Erik the Red.

I've also found lots of Amanitas (possibly Grisettes, but I'm not going to risk death just to find out), Gymnopilus (apparently it's mildly psychotropic, but that means it'll be a bit trippy when you're puking your guts out for days), and one really nice Jack-o-lantern cluster (description sounds like the Gymnopilus minus the tripping).

      1. I really was only looking for morels, but I was finding plenty of other fungi that I couldn't ID. That one there was the strangest, though.

I only found four morels (down south of Sioux City IA, along the Missouri river). My morel-hunting friends tell me it's still a bit early, though.

      2. I did see some Hen of the Woods in the same area I found the probably-false morels. I really need to get better at my ID'ing...

          1. Eh, after comparing what I saw more closely with other pics of Hens I can find online, yeah, I don't think it was the same thing.

            1. Well, mushrooms don't always read the calendar (just like birds don't look at maps).
I've read that Pheasant Backs are spring mushrooms, but I found most of mine on one log last fall.
