Minor Details: Games of May 2

Excellent pitching in three games out of four.

SYRACUSE 1, ROCHESTER 0 IN SYRACUSE

The Red Wings played a 1-0 game for the second straight day, but this time they were on the losing end.  The lone run came in the fourth, when Trea Turner singled, stole second, and scored on a Matt Skole single.  The Red Wings had seven hits, but they were all singles and only once did the Red Wings get two of them in the same inning.  That was in the eighth, when a pair of one-out hits were immediately followed by a double play.  Jason Wheeler had a fine performance wasted, as he allowed one run on six hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in a complete game.  Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 with a walk and Byron Buxton went 2-for-4.  Ex-Twin Ben Revere was on a rehab assignment with Syracuse and went 0-for-3.

CHATTANOOGA 9, MONTGOMERY 6 IN CHATTANOOGA

Joe Maloney had a two-run double, one of three doubles in a four-run seventh that put the Lookouts in the lead to stay.  Chattanooga had led 4-1 after two but was down 6-4 after six.  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double.  Zach Granite and Leonardo Reginatto were each 2-for-5 with a double.  Ryan Eades pitched well for four innings but gave up three runs in the fifth, giving him a line of five innings, four runs (three earned), six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.  Daniel Palka was 1-for-4 with a walk to make his average .326.

FORT MYERS 8, PALM BEACH 3 IN PALM BEACH

Edgar Corcino hit a fourth-inning grand slam that put the Miracle up 6-1 and they were in control the rest of the way.  Corcino went 2-for-4 and also drew a walk.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a walk and Alex Real was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Stephen Gonsalves had another strong game, pitching six innings and allowing one run on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  For the season he is 3-1, 1.45, 0.81 WHIP with 27 strikeouts in 31 innings.  Nick Gordon went 0-for-5 and is now batting .315.

LANSING 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN LANSING

Carl Wise's RBI single in the sixth gave the Lugnuts a 2-1 lead and they added two in the eighth to get the win.  The Kernels had their chances, getting eight hits and six walks, but they stranded thirteen runners and went 0-for-16 with men in scoring position, which would be hard to do even if you were trying to.  Cody Stashak pitched well, striking out eight in 5.2 innings while giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  Rafael P. Valera was 3-for-5 with a double.  Zander Weil was 2-for-5 with a double.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-4 with a walk and is now hitting .342.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-5, making his average .302.
