FMD — Van Halen

I think it’s a indisputable fact that Van Halen is one of the greatest rock albums ever. Eddie’s guitar work, lyrics about getting with the ladies, David Lee Roth’s bravado. It’s all here wrapped up in leather, barbed wire, and a whiff of Axe body spray. Unfortunately since they first hit the scene back in 1977-78, there’s not a lot of video of their original shows. Below isn’t exactly a video but you can listen to a great early version of Feel Your Love Tonight. It’s definitely faster than the studio version -- almost punk like. Not as polished as the album but damn is it exciting, To this day I still get goosebumps listening to this song.

    3. I just noticed the Kate Simko credit here. I've got an EP and an album of hers in my library, from eight years ago, and I hadn't heard anything from her since. Love the EP's artwork, BTW.

    4. More often known by their own names, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Candi Staton cover.

    6. I think this is my favorite song about domestic grass species, and also my favorite song about lawn mowing. Which are yours? "Green, Green Grass of Home"? "Green Grass of Tunnel"? "Green, Green Grass of Homegrown"? I don't even think that last one is about actual grass, but "Grass" (read it like a hippie).

    9. I'm kindof disappointed to find out that Jewel is no longer the only actual musician to be signed to Fisher-Price.

    T. If you're not familiar with this locally-sourced hybrid of Neil Young and Invisibl Skratch Piklz, you should familiarize yourself. Great lyrics like "With the shower running and my clothes on / I figured out that I hate you all", and "The casserole was good and drives were so nice / Welcome to the worst part of your life". Here:

  2. 1. The Hold Steady - "Sketchy Metal" - Almost Killed Me
    2. The Beatles - "Octopus's Garden" - Abbey Road
    3. Jason Isbell - "Songs That She Sang In The Shower" - Southeastern
    4. Arcade Fire - "Flashbulb Eyes" - Reflektor
    5. Sonic Youth - "Hey Joni" - Daydream Nation

    6. Neutral Milk Hotel - "Three Peaches" - On Avery Island
    7. Damon Albarn - "Everyday Robots" - Everyday Robots
    8. Bob Dylan - "Father of Night" - New Morning
    9. Green Day - "She" - Dookie
    10. Cheap Trick - "Surrender (Live)" - At Budokan

  3. Yo Can of Corn, I can see on Spotify that you recently listened to Katy Perry. Just sayin' :o)

    1. As a man with a Spotify playlist entitled "Girly Sing Along" consisting of Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, and Miley I have your back, CoC.
