Minor Details: Games of July 19

Three-run homers only help if you also have pitching.  A big comeback for Elizabethton.

DURHAM 7, ROCHESTER 6 IN ROCHESTER (10 INNINGS)

Once again the Red Wings came back only to lose in extra innings.  Trailing 6-1 after seven, Jorge Polanco hit a three-run homer (his ninth) in a five-run eighth to tie it.  In the tenth, though, Dayron Varona singled in the go-ahead run.  Pat Dean continues to struggle, giving up four runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts in six innings.  The Red Wings had six hits, and all were singles other than the Polanco homer.

ELIZABETHTON 9, KINGSPORT 8 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins trailed 7-2 after five but scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie it.  A passed ball put the Mets up 8-6 in the top of the ninth but an error, a walk, and Shane Carrier's two-run double gave the Twins a win.  Tyler Beardsley, who had been one of the few competent pitchers for Elizabethton, allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.  Alex Kirilloff was 3-for-5 and is batting .338.  Andre Jernigan was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Ariel Montesino was 0-for-5 with a walk and is batting .387.  Robert Molina was used as a pinch-hitter and struck out, dropping his average to .030 (1-for-33).

GCL TWINS 4, GCL RAYS 2 AT TWINS

Jean Carlos Arias hit a two-run single in the third to give the Twins a 2-1 lead and the Twins scored two more in the sixth to take a control of the game.  Bo Hellquist struck out seven in five innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks.  Callan Pearce struck out three in two shutout innings.  He allowed an unearned run, but his ERA remains zero in twelve innings this season.  Tyree Davis led the offense by going 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Roni Tapia got his first hit of the season.  He is now 1-for-21 (.048)
