Minor Details: Games of July 25

Homers by Adam Brett Walker II and Byungho Park aren't enough for the Red Wings.  Redemption for Nick Gordon.  Excellent pitching by Lachlan Wells and Tyler Beardsley.

PAWTUCKET 7, ROCHESTER 5 IN PAWTUCKET

Back-to-back homers by Adam Brett Walker II and Byungho Park gave the Red Wings a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth, but the Red Sox scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take control of the game.  Nick Greenwood pitched five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  D. J. Baxendale hadn't given up a run in AAA before this game, but when he finally did he didn't mess around, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits without retiring a batter.  Walker II was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in addition to his twentieth home run.  Park was 2-for-4 with a double in addition to his sixth home run.  Tommy Field and Wilfredo Tovar were each 2-for-4.  Daniel Palka was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .311.

FORT MYERS 3, PALM BEACH 2 IN FORT MYERS

An error by Nick Gordon allowed two runs to score and put the Cardinals up 2-1 in the top of the eighth, but the Miracle scored two in the bottom of the eighth, with Gordon redeeming himself by driving in the go-ahead run with a single.  Keaton Steele pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  The Miracle were out-hit 8-5 and did not have a batter with more than one hit.  Gordon was 1-for-4 and is batting .301.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-3 and is batting .356.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, DAYTON 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

A walk and three singles produced two fifth-inning runs and Lachlan Wells took it from there.  Wells pitched eight innings, striking out nine and giving up just two hits and a walk.  In six starts, his ERA is 1.27 and his WHIP is 1.02 with 29 strikeouts and 6 walks in 34.1 innings.  The Kernels had just five hits.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-4 and is batting .329.  Chris Ibarra was 0-for-1 with two walks.  In 69 at-bats, he is batting .145 with an OBP of .306.

ELIZABETHTON 6, PULASKI 1 IN PULASKI

The Twins scored one in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead.  Tyler Beardsley struck out thirteen in 6.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk.  Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-5 with two two-run homers, giving him eight homers for the season with an average of .310.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-4 with a double.  Roberto Gonzalez was 2-for-4.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-5 and is batting .365.  Alex Kirilloff was 0-for-5 to drop his average to .364.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL ORIOLES 2 AT ORIOLES

Joe Cronin's two-run homer put the Twins ahead 3-1 in the fourth and a four-run ninth consisting of four walks and three singles put the game out of reach.  Edina's Bo Hellquist pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Cronin was 2-for-4 and had a double in addition to his home run.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-5 and is batting .300.  Gorge Munoz was 3-for-4.

DSL ORIOLES2 1, DSL TWINS 0 AT ORIOLES2

There was no score until the bottom of the ninth.  With one out, a walk, a double, and an intentional walk loaded the bases for the Orioles2.  The next batter hit a grounder to short and the Twins shortstop threw to first for some reason, recording the out but allowing the winning run to score.  Edwar Colina struck out five in five shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks.  Victor Tademo was 2-for-4 and is batting .321.  Edgar Herrera was 1-for-4 and is batting .328.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.
