2016 Game 107: Twins at Cleveland

So, tomorrow is the two-thirds point of the season...I'm feeling a tad regretful over how little I've watched, in that case. On the other hand, I assume I was having fun doing whatever the hell I was doing in place of watching this team.

All the same, they've been at least decent lately, and could pull off an unlikely sweep if somehow Tyler Duffey can pitch better than Trevor Bauer, which is not the ideal matchup to complete a sweep, but I guess that's what we've got. I might catch the beginning of this, but I'll be meeting freealonzo at US Bank Stadium to see the Blues take on AC Milan, and as much as I wouldn't hate seeing this game, I would always regret missing Chelsea when they were just a handful of miles away.

Go Twins! Maybe we'll check in late in the game when the match is starting.

  1. What might be most encouraging about Max Kepler is all the walks he's been taking of late. You would think that most rookies going on a power binge would be swinging more aggressively. Of course, he had good K/BB ratios in the minors, especially last year.

  2. On June 1, Sano went to the DL and Max Kepler took over right field full time. Before then, the Twins were 15-36 with a .689 OPS. Since then, they are 27-28 with a .795 OPS.

  3. I really, really, really hope that Polanco's bunt was not called by Molitor. I didn't see it, so did it look at all like he was trying to bunt for a hit?

          1. apropos of almost nothing, I was watching the Seattle meltdown against the Cubs the other night. Jon Lester laid down a perfect suicide safety squeeze bunt (as a PH) to win it. Both Dick and Gordo prolly would have died from happiness right there.

  4. With 3 hits already (in 3 innings!), Joe Mauer is now sitting at 1799 for his career.

    1. I like Provus' stat earlier in the game; Bauer had only given up two hits on a 0-2 count so far this year; he did it three times in ½ inning tonight

  5. So, can Duff Man do what Gibson could not and go five innings to be in line for a win?

  6. An inning or two ago, Dazzle said the Indians wouldn't be swinging at the first pitch, so Duffey should just get ahead of the hitters. Now, he's talking about how almost all of the Indians hits have come when they swing at the first pitch.

    1. That's terrible analysis since Duffey has 5 Ks and no BBs. Why would you wait for him to get ahead of you, especially when trailing? Of course they are swinging early. The good news is Duffey's pitch count is in good shape thus far.

  7. Not a great performance by Duff Man, but he got through six innings and we're ahead.

    1. Lot of hits given up but also with six strikeouts and no walks. ERA and FIP says he did poorly but xFIP likes the game.

      1. The big game in the Twins streak was a 19-1 game against the Royals with Greinke starting. Mauer went 5-5 with 7 RBI. Even Delmon Young went 4-6.

      2. I just remembered the 32 run doubleheader against the White Sox. Game 1 ended I think 20-16. Another one of those tomorrow would do it.

        1. 20-14. I must've thought the White Sox scored more because they were coming back at the end.

    1. I don't know where this Twins team was all year, but I hope they stick around. We're still on track for 98-64!
