Minor Details: Games of August 14

Lots of offense for Chattanooga and Fort Myers.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 4, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings stranded eight runners, going 0-for-6 with men in scoring position.  David Hurlbut, in his Red Wings debut,  pitched six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Jake Reed pitched a scoreless inning in his Red Wings debut.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 to lead the offense.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-2 with a walk and is now 3-for-9 as a Red Wing.  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 and is batting .328.

ROCHESTER 4, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings scored two in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.  They led 4-2 going to the seventh, but the RailRiders got one in and had the tying run on third before the game ended.  Omar Bencomo gave up two in the first but no more, going 5.2 innings while allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-3 with a home run (his eighth) and a double.  John Ryan Murphy was 2-for-2.  Byron Buxton was 1-for-3 and is batting .328.

CHATTANOOGA 8, BIRMINGHAM 3 IN BIRMINGHAMM

Already leading 4-1, the Lookouts scored four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Ryan Eades, making his first start in over a month, struck out seven in 3.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk before being removed, presumably due to pitch count (79).  Zack Jones struck out three in two shutout innings, making his ERA 1.59 with an 0.97 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 22.2 innings.  Heiker Meneses was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .313.  T. J. White was also 3-for-5.  Shannon Wilkerson was 2-for-4 and Ryan Walker was 2-for-5.  Each team made three errors.

FORT MYERS 11, BRADENTON 9 IN BRADENTON

The Miracle had leads of 5-0 and 6-4, fell behind 8-6, and were tied 9-9 after eight.  They then scored two in the ninth on one hit, aided by an error, a balk, a wild pitch, and three walks, to win the game.  Sam Clay lasted only four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  The top five men in the Fort Myers lineup went 12-for-26.  Nick Gordon was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk and is batting .301.  Joe Maloney was 3-for-5 with a walk.  Tanner Witt was 3-for-6 with a double.  Tanner English was 2-for-5 with a home run, his second.

KANE COUNTY 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN KANE COUNTY

The Cougars scored in the first and led all the way.  Tyler Beardsley struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-4 and is batting .344.  The Kernels stranded nine runners.

ELIZABETHTON AT BLUEFIELD (SUSPENDED)

The game was suspended in the top of the fourth with the Twins leading 5-1.  They have two men on base with one out in the fourth.  Lewin Diaz and Shane Carrier have each homered.  The game will be completed today.

milb.com says the suspended Elizabethton game will be completed at 4:00 a.m.  We assume this was a typographical error.
