Where They Stand: Through Games of August 17

There are two to two and a half weeks left in the minor league seasons.

Rochester is 68-57, second in the wild-card standings, but 6.5 games behind Lehigh Valley.  I think we can say they're pretty much out of it.

Chattanooga is 27-24 in the second half, third in the Southern League North.  However, in first place is Jackson, which also won the first half.  If I understand it correctly, if a team wins both halves, their playoff opponent is the team with the best overall record.  That would be the Lookouts, who are 63-58 overall, a game ahead of Montgomery.  So, it appears that as of now, Chattanooga is in line for a playoff spot.

Fort Myers is 27-26, fourth in the Florida State League South, but only two games behind first-place Jupiter.

Cedar Rapids is 30-22, second in the MIdwest League Western.  They are in a playoff position, three games ahead of Burlington.

Elizabethton is 28-24, second in the Appalachian League West.  They are in a playoff position, 1.5 games ahead of Greeneville.

The GCL Twins are 26-20, first in the Gulf Coast League South, 1.5 games ahead of the GCL Red Sox.

The DSL Twins are 31-32, fifth in the DSL South, ten games behind the DSL Mariners1.  They have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

So, at this time, we have four teams in position to be in the playoffs, and one other team with a shot.  The DSL season ends August 27.  The Appalachian League and Gulf Coast League seasons end September 1.  The Florida State League season ends September 4.  The International League, Southern League, and Midwest League seasons end September 5.
