Where They Stand: Through Games of August 21

About two weeks left in most minor league seasons.  Here's where our teams stand in regard to the playoffs.

Rochester is 71-58, second in the wild card race, but 5.5 games behind Lehigh Valley.  Their elimination number is eleven.

Chattanooga is 29-26 in the second half, which puts them third in their division, 6.5 games behind Jackson.  However, Jackson also won the first half and with a 5.5 game lead on second place Montgomery figures to win the second half, so the other divisional playoff spot will go to the team with the second best overall record.  The Lookouts lead the Biscuits by one game in that race.

Fort Myers is 29-28 in the second half, tied for third in their division, but only two games behind St. Lucie and Jupiter, who are tied for first.  Their elimination number is twelve.

Cedar Rapids is 32-24 in the second half, second in their division.  That would qualify them for a playoff spot. They lead third-place Burlington by three games.  Their magic number is twelve.

Elizabethton is 30-25, second in their division.  They lead Greeneville by three games for a playoff spot.  Their magic number is ten.

The GCL Twins are 28-22, first in their division.  They lead the GCL Red Sox by one game.  Their magic number is ten.

The DSL Twins are 33-33, fifth in their division, eleven games behind the DSL Mariners1.  They have been eliminated from the playoffs.

So, we have four teams in playoff position, one more with a decent chance, one with a slim chance, and only one actually eliminated.  The DSL season ends August 27.  The Appalachian League and Gulf Coast League seasons end September 1.  The Florida State League season ends September 4.  The International League, Southern League, and Midwest League seasons end September 5.
