October 1, 2016: Probability

Did you know that the date of October 1st is slightly more likely to fall on a Monday, Thursday or Saturday (58 in 400 years each) than on Tuesday or Wednesday (57), and slightly less likely to occur on a Friday or Sunday (56)?

  1. Denver Airport - our vaca to the high country comes to a close.

We stopped in Boulder for lunch on the way through, and one of the two guys next to us began having a seizure. His buddy did a good job of immobilizing his head, and we did our best to clear their corner and go flag the fire truck as it approached. There was a former EMT from the upstairs seating that basically supervised and assured his buddy that he was doing the right thing, pleased that his airway remained clear. About the time we were ready to leave (we were just getting ready to pay when it happened) , he was beginning to come out of it. The few tables over in our section of the restaurant did an admirable job of being helpful and not letting it become a big scene.

    1. Mrs. A used to have seizures. They're controlled by medication, and it's nearly thirty years since she's had one, but there's still no guarantee. It's always a scary thing to see, even when you know what's going on.

      1. Yep, they can be scary, particularly if you're unprepared.

One of my brothers has seizures, likely a result of the cocktail of drugs he was given during treatment for juvenile leukemia. (Good luck getting Mayo to admit what's in the literature, though...) He's on medication to try to control them, but they've never been able to get his dosage quite right. He's frequently groggy & needs extra naps during the day, either from the meds or small seizures in the night that disturb his sleep.

I hope Mrs. A keeps her streak up for several more decades.

    1. Heh. I do think they should have used that clip of Rosario throwing his hands in the air for the end, though.
