October 20, 2016: Take Three

This morning is (or was, for you late risers) my third attempt at getting a work certification done after an apartment fire got in the way of the first attempt and a scheduling snafu screwed up the second. By 10 in the morning I should be done with it, but as I drift off to sleep, I have serious difficulty seeing it happen.

    1. This was front page news in the online version of the Strib yesterday. I hope his absence doesn't wreak too much havoc on their product going forward.

    1. Playing Mario games with my kid is one of my favorite gaming activities, so I'm in the bag for this thing day 1. Maybe I'll actually be able to finish more games with the home/mobile set-up, definitely looks like it will fit better than other home systems into the little bit of free time I have these days.

    2. So we've just moved totally away from the motion-based games of the Wii and subsequent systems? This tells you how long it's been since I've bought a system. My kid is 7. Probably not too many years before we start thinking about things, and I've not kept up in the meantime.

      1. Short answer: most innovations in gaming are temporary. We pass through motion, 3-D, dance and guitar phenomena here and there, but gaming always essentially goes back to its roots.

    3. Ya know, it has some neat concepts, but I still don't think I'll bite. Mainly, I'm afraid those controllers are just not going to fit my giant ham hands.

      1. There is the adult Pro controller too. I wonder if they will offer larger Joy-Cons; I hope they do.

    1. It's really too bad women's sports generally and WNBA specifically don't get the attention men's sports do (present company included). We all know the Lynx have been awesome for 5 years now but really they are a team that we wish all of our men's teams were like: gritty, well coached, superstar player, local legend player, stat friendly, accessible. Fun. Champions.

I'll watch tonight on and off with baseball game and will tune in at the end. They certainly deserve our attention and praise.

      1. I've got the Lynx on the TV and baseball on a tablet, although I missed the last five minutes of the second quarter because the kids needed to get to bed. But yeah, people who like basketball have no reason not to watch this (aside from not being ESPN) and it'd be great if more people did. It's good basketball, people!

      2. What's really sad is how the best WNBA players have to play in Europe during the offseason to make decent money, especially when compared to male pro athletes.
