  1. I posted this in yesterday's cup, but in case you missed it: Adam Brett Walker II was waived by Milwaukee and claimed by Baltimore.

  2. My great-nephew made his second ride in the Junior National Finals Rodeo yesterday. He's is in tenth place and qualified for the final round Sunday.

    1. There were only eleven riders who scored in both rounds and he was one of them. To me, that's pretty amazing.

      1. I have no frame of reference, but from context, I'm inclined to agree.

(It occurs to me that if you read my comment in Perd Hapley's voice, it sounds like it comes straight from the show)

  3. We went to see John Prine last night, and boy-howdy was he good. Maybe the best concert I've ever seen.

  4. I'm feeling like a champ this morning. I just removed and replaced the bottom vent covers / ash sweep from my beloved weber kettle. There was so much shit built up that the vents were permanently open. Lots of elbow grease and dawn detergent, plus a few swear words, and I have an almost brand new grill (again). Suck it planned obsolescence.

    1. Yeah, that sounds promising.

      I also liked this:

as the Twins seek to replace fired first-base coach Butch Davis, who oversaw the team’s outfield defense and baserunning.

Man, was that guy set up to fail.

      1. It's gonna be weird having three professional sports teams in Minnesota the next couple of years.

      2. Kinda. I'm still in wait-and-see mode, though. It's not that they've done anything I particularly disagree with, it's just that they haven't done anything that I can see as an obviously good move, either. That's not a criticism--after all, they just got here. I'll be hopeful about them until I see reasons not to be.

  5. I get this alumni newsletter from the undergraduate alma mater Dept of Mathematics and Statistics (UMD). Still two profs there that were teaching when I was there (Joe Gallian and Richard Green).

Gallian was into three things - Abstract algebra, weight lifting, and the Beatles. He once taught a class on the Beatles and it was the highest attended class in school history.

      1. When I had Gallian for abstract algebra, there were real chalk-boards.

Joe used to finish writing something on the board, then walk over to the open window, and throw the used-up piece of chalk out the window like skipping a rock on the pond. Likeable character though.

He led the MAA but more importantly was listed as one of the 100 Great Duluthians of the 20th Century. I wonder who else is on that list.

  6. Fantastic Beasts, y'all. That was a good ride, and Stephen Hawking was young enough to be mobile, if still incredibly nerdy.

            1. Once the team stopped watxhing Lavine in iso and start moving the ball the looked great.

              1. Wolves come back started the same time Lifter Puller went on in Brooklyn.

    1. Apparently they need to figure out how to play every game as the second half of a back to back.

    1. Oh, mama. I saw Guardians in NI with my brother from another mother, and it's still one of my best memories from traveling.

      1. It's easily my favorite of the marvel movies and I laughed out loud a number of times just during this trailer.

      1. Oh, well played. Subtle enough that I did not catch it the first (several) times through. But that's me, not you.
