  1. AMR, apologies for the fumble. The good news is that our department's intern was 20 paces in front of me rather than 20 paces behind, so she remained completely oblivious.

    1. this video happened to fit my circumstances almost perfectly today. I had a tough conversation with my director yesterday about a project I'm overseeing (including the development of a web app to display some data visualizations), as we were disagreeing about some aspects of the web app.

I shared this with him, my dev team, and my fellow deputy. We all had a good laugh.

  2. A law school classmate (and friend I still keep in touch with through FB) argued in front of the SCOTUS yesterday.

If I weren't so good at living vicariously through others, I'd be a more disappointing attorney.

    1. It seems like the Rule 5 situation is what is forcing the issue. Short term, 4 catchers is ridiculous, but maybe it's a short term compromise you accept for the long-term potential of keeping the Rule 5 guy on the roster. And as RR mentioned, if you are using one of them as a pitcher, then maybe you have:

      5 starting pitchers
      6 relief pitchers
      1 C/RP
      1 C/1B
      2 C
10 field players for 7 positions

It's also somewhat less outrageous in the NL where you don't play with a DH as much. Honestly, if you trust the C/RP to pitch, you could go to 5 starting pitchers, 5 relief pitchers, plus the C/RP.

I don't think it's what they are doing here, but it could kind of be an interesting strategy to run a sort of catcher platoon. Paul Lo Duca may be a somewhat extreme example, but check out his career tOPS+ splits (OPS relative to his overall OPS):

      104 -- April
      117 -- May
      103 -- June
      105 -- July
      92 -- August
      81 -- September

And that's over the course of his entire career, not exactly a small sample. The position is notorious for wearing people down. If you had three guys that could catch and play a corner infield position, rotating them around to keep them from sitting in a squat six days a week could be good both for the team down the stretch and for the players as they get older. The hardest part is finding guys who can both catch and hit.

      1. Salvador Perez

        102 -- April
        106 -- May
        126 -- June
        68 -- July
        94 -- August
        106 -- September

He's the guy everyone says wears down because he never takes a day off. It sure looks like it until September, bizarrely.

  3. Nibbish - Hope you had fun kicking some butt in cribbage tonight. (he's kind of a ringer) It was nice meeting you after all these years. Should be a fun league. Thanks for playing!

  4. That was the Shabazziest quarter ever. Constant gunning, crashing the boards, never considering a pass.
