  1. Search question: How do I search for comments in the COC. I had a lot of good suggestions on what to do in Memphis but when I search for "Memphis," I get a lot of music and basketball posts with Memphis in the title.

      1. Awesome! Thanks.

We're leaving on Monday since the 14-year old is in the State Science Fair this weekend.

I know I sound like the Bad Dad, but I have mixed feelings about their success in some of these things as it just means more time and money spent as they move on to state, nationals, etc. Especially in some of these sports where they have dozens of levels so everyone makes state and it costs you a few hundred dollars and another week of summer/spring/whatever.

  2. Tangent off of Algonad's comment: the boy's in K and there's a science fair coming up. If he wants to, I wouldn't mind him participating. Not to win or anything (don't know if they actually do that), but if he's excited about something he loves to tell people about it. However, still trying to think of something interesting, but level appropriate (no volcanos). I found a couple cool ideas.

  3. I think the only way to describe Christian Pulisic is zomg!. Also, Seamus Coleman's injury was beyond gross.

      1. 8 of their first 9 regular-season games are day games (home opener at 3:10, rest of day games at 12:10) and it seems like players much prefer day games in the spring. A road game for the Twins, so I wonder if MASN was originally going to show it but had a schedule change.

    1. If the goal is to get him stretched out in Rochester I'm okay with that, because he really hasn't pitched a lot this spring. Once he's stretched out (assuming he's pitching well), he needs to come up to the majors. He already knows how to get AAA batters out. He'll only learn to get major league batters out by pitching to major league batters.

      1. With 4 veteran starters, it will really depend on how the 5th starter is doing. Barring injury I would be surprised to see Berrios up before June unless the 5th starter is just getting hammered. LEN3 seems to think Duffey has won the 5th starter's spot, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews of Mejia showing a mid-90s fastball and a good breaking ball and changeup. Duffey did well vs. minor leaguers and Mejia had 1 bad inning today, but Mejia's numbers have been better overall. I really don't understand guys in competition for a spot pitching against minor leaguers. They need to be split up and allowed to start against major leaguers.

        1. With 4 veteran starters...

This has been the problem. If those 4 can pitch better than Berrios, then fine. But if not, keeping them locked in until June because they're vets is bad.

          1. It's almost unheard of for a team to go the full season with the same 5 starters in the rotation no matter how good they are. Berrios will get his chance. He's made some changes in his mechanics anyways, so he needs to have some success with that in a lower pressure environment. I'd really like to see the Twins go with Mejia in the rotation and Duffey in the bullpen. I doubt Mejia will make the team if he isn't in the rotation and I think Duffey can be a dominant reliever and his repertoire, demeanor and experience make him an ideal candidate to break out in the bullpen the way Perkins did.

            1. I'm fairly confident that, by the time Berrios is ready, there will either have been an injury or one of the starters will have pitched his way out of the rotation, veteran or not.

              1. Shoot, El Duque took two apparent DL stints where Brandon McCarthy got the starts and then switched to long relief for the end of the season (replaced by McCarthy again).
Still: 6 starters total for the year. Starters 1-4 each pitched 32 games.

  4. I flipped the wild game on, watched then give up a goal two seconds into the second period, and flipped it off.

I've been impressed with how fast I've jumped off that bandwagon.

      1. At least they're doing this right when baseball is about to start. The twins better not go 0-9 again!

        1. This is essentially my exact thought process. "I was going to be watching them a lot less anyway..."
