Minor Details: Games of May 19

The good Aaron Slegers showed up for the Red Wings.  The Lookouts get shutout.  A triumphant return for Lewis Thorpe.  A big innings drops the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 2, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Zack Granite homered in the fourth and a sacrifice fly made it 2-0 in the seventh.  The RailRiders got the tying run to second with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.

The Red Wings saw the good Aaron Slegers for the second straight game, as he went 8.1 innings and gave up one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Drew Rucinski retired the last two batters to get the save.  Rochester had only four hits.  Granite was 1-for-4 and is batting .300.

BILOXI 4, CHATTANOOGA 0 IN BILOXI

The Shuckers scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, and sixth.  The Lookouts did not get a hit until the fourth and did not get a man to third until the ninth, when they loaded the bases with one out.  A strikeout and a fly out ended the game.

Ryan Eades has apparently moved into the rotation after being used in relief the first month of the season.  He struck out five in five innings but allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.  Randy Rosario gave up an unearned run in two innings to make his ERA 2.01.  Nick Burdi pitched a perfect ninth and has an ERA of 0.57.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-4 and is batting .314.  T. J. White was 0-for-3 and is batting .313.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 and is batting .304.

FORT MYERS 7, BRADENTON 1 IN FORT MYERS

A four-run fifth carried the Miracle to its sixth straight win.  With the score tied 1-1, Rafael P. Valera led off the fifth with a home run.  A run scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice and Tanner English singled home two.  Fort Myers added two in the eighth on a single by Nelson Molina.

Lewis Thorpe appeared in his first game since 2014.  He pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Anthony McIver pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.74, Alex Muren pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, dropping his ERA to 1.42, and Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.04.  English was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and is batting .375.  Chris Paul was 1-for-2 with a walk and is batting .333.

WISCONSIN 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN WISCONSIN

Already leading 3-1, the Timber Rattlers scored six in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  They had only two hits in the inning, both singles, but got the benefit of three walks, two hit batsmen, and two errors.  The Kernels scored single runs in the third and ninth and did not threaten in any other inning.

Clark Beeker was hurt by a couple of gopher balls but pitched well otherwise, going seven innings and giving up three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.76.  The big inning came off Max Cordy, whose ERA went from 3.94 to 6.06.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth, and is batting .333.
