  1. When did this go up? I'm here, man!

Today is the day we're supposed to find out final budget per episode for our show. Everything I know about the business suggests we'll be waiting longer, although Netflix has been suggesting for weeks now that it was probably just a matter of time before they pull the trigger. I'm glad I'm working today so I won't be idle while thinking about this.

  2. LeBron passed MJ in playoff points last night. It has been pointed out that he took 32 more games. Well, it took him more than 100 fewer shots and he has 400 assists and 700 more rebounds than Jordan. Eight NBA Finals (and they'll be a big favorite to return next year) and 3 rings despite being a favorite only twice. He'll get to 30,000 points next year. And he's 32, three years younger than when Jordan retired the second time.

He's gonna be the underdog in the Finals, but this guy is the greatest player of the past twenty years and may be the best player who ever lived.

    1. Playoff per game stats:

Player G ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
      Jordan 179 1.7 4.7 6.4 5.7 2.1 0.9 3.1 3.0 33.4
      LeBron 212 1.5 7.2 8.8 6.8 1.8 1.0 3.5 2.4 28.3

      He's pretty good.

      1. Player G ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
        Shaq 216 4.0 7.6 11.6 2.7 0.5 2.1 3.0 3.6 24.3
        Magic 190 1.8 5.9 7.7 12.3 1.9 0.3 3.7 2.8 19.5
        Kareem 237 2.6 6.5 10.5 3.2 1.0 2.4 2.6 3.4 24.3

different player types, obviously, but worth comparing. (For Kareem, some numbers are off because they didn't record ORB and DRB separately or STL or BLK prior to 1973-74, or TOV prior to 1977-78)

    2. I've never been that big a fan, but I don't have an argument to offer. Dude is a beast.

  3. This is encouraging:

    Kepler 2016 .235/.309/.424 /.734 97OPS+
    Kepler 2017 .270/.362/.468/.830 127OPS+

    1. He dropped off the end of the year last year after a good start. For a young player, that's typically a result of the league making adjustments to him. Hopefully, this year is a sign that he's making the proper adjustments himself.

    1. Train Dreams may be my favorite novella that I've ever read.

The owner of our local bookstore is a huge Denis Johnson fan, she pointed me towards a few of his titles.

      1. I'm bummed about this. I followed his journalism as well as his novels. Boo-urns.

    2. Yet another alum of the Iowa Writer's Workshop. I l bought Incognito Lounge based solely on Raymond Carver's book blurb. Later read the short story collection Jesus' Son. I've had Tree of Smoke in a growing stack of unread books for some while now. I should probably read it. A big loss to the literary world.

      1. Tree of smoke is a book that I've carried with me (figuratively) for a long, long time.
