Minor Details: Games of May 27

A strange walkoff win for the Red Wings.  Yohan Pino is back in the Twins organization for the Lookouts.  A Miracle rally falls short.  An excellent game by Sean Poppen.

ROCHESTER 3, INDIANAPOLIS 2 IN ROCHESTER (12 INNINGS)

In the ninth, Zack Granite reached on an error, went from first to third on a ground out to shortstop, and scored on a Daniel Palka sacrifice fly.  In the twelfth, a single, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with one out.  I'm not sure quite how the winning run scored, so I'll quote what the play-by-play says:  "Zack Granite lines into a force out, center fielder Austin Meadows to third baseman Erich Weiss. Leonardo Reginatto scores. John Ryan Murphy out at 3rd. Engelb Vielma to 2nd. Zack Granite to 1st."  As far as I can tell, Granite lined what appeared to be a clean single to right-center to score the winning run.  Murphy, however, pulled a Fred Merkle and did not touch third.  For some reason, the Indians decided to go ahead and get the force out, even though it was meaningless, simply to deprive Granite of a hit.

Nik Turley struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, making his ERA 2.33.  Buddy Boshers pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.  Drew Rucinski pitched three shutout innings to make his ERA 2.95.  Niko Goodrum was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a walk.  Daniel Palka was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-6 to make his average .300.

MONTGOMERY 3, CHATTANOOGA 0 IN CHATTANOOGA

Joe McCarthy doubled and scored in the second and Grant Kay hit a two-run double in the eighth.  The Lookouts put a man on base in the first inning but did not do so again.  Chattanooga had six hits and four walks but went 0-for-9 with men in scoring position.

Yohan Pino, back in the Twins organization, made his 2017 debut with three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Matt Tracy pitched the other six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a walk to make his average .305.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 to make his average .301.

CHARLOTTE 4, FORT MYERS 2 IN CHARLOTTE

The Stone Crabs scored one in the first and two in the second to go ahead 3-0.  It was 4-0 before the Miracle finally got on the board with one in the seventh.  They got one more in the ninth and had men on first and third with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.

Randy LeBlanc pitched six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Anthony McIver pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 2.60,  Brian Navaretto was 2-for-4.  Sean Miller was 2-for-5.  Chris Paul was 1-for-3 to make his average .349.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, KANE COUNTY 0 IN KANE COUNTY

RBI singles by Travis Blankenhorn and Caleb Hamilton put the Kernels up 2-0 in the first and they led all the way.  The Cougars biggest threat came in the eighth, when two one-out singles and a two-out walk loaded the bases.  A fly to center ended the inning.

Sean Poppen pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.35.  Zach Tillery and Hector Lujan each pitched a scoreless inning, with Lujan making his ERA 2.21.  Hank Morrison, who made his season debut last Thursday, went 2-for-3 with a home run to make his average .333.  Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a walk to make his average .316.
