Going to guess another week's worth and every day of that week.
that's a lot of Nebraska coming down the pike.
it's the featured game
Byron Buxton is batting .409/.458/.545 in July. SSS and all, but he already has as many multihit games in July as he had in June and he had more multihit games in June than he had in the first 2 months of the season combined. Most encouraging is he only has 4 Ks in 24 PAs in July. He had 13 Ks in his first 23 PAs of April.
That last line is the most encouraging. When Buxton puts the ball in play, good things can happen.
The good news is the new F.O. stayed patient with him and possibly he has a solid July/August/September instead of just a hot month at the end of the season, like we saw last year. Bux has skills!
I think that FO patience is in large part due to Buxton having just one option remaining.
and also his defense has really helped the pitching staff to the point where he's above replacement level player; I'm guessing the new FO recognizes this
Three multi-hit games in a row now, the patience seems to be paying off for them.
Brandon Kintzler has been added to the All-Star team as an injury replacement. That's right, the Minnesota Twins have 2 All-Star pitchers. And they still are 26th in ERA, 27th in WHIP and 28th in FIP.
Hunter Greene went right to the deadline to sign with the Reds.
Greene gets $7.23 mil from @Reds. Slot was $7,193,200 at No. 2. Highest bonus ever in bonus pool era.
Meanwhile, Royce Lewis has already played 9 games in the GCL and is batting .324/.419/.568. He signed for about $1M less than slot.
BA posted its midseason Top 100 Prospects list. Lewis is ranked 39th. The only other Twins prospect on the list is Nick Gordon at 19th. The other players the Twins were closely linked to for the first pick in the draft, Brendan McKay and Kyle Wright, are ranked 40th and 41st, respectively. However, No. 2 pick Hunter Greene and No. 3 pick MacKenzie Gore are ranked 30th and 31st, respectively.
those prospect rankings should be accompanied by some variance estimates. Like, "39th, plus or minus 10" or something like that. Because rank-order lists of that sort are pretty speculative.
I like Sickels's ratings because of that.
My temperature gauge I have at my house peaked at 108.7. Now it's all the way down to 108.1. I might need to throw on a sweater pretty soon.
Only 104 here today. #globalwarmingisalie
Now I know why all you California types are moving up here and jacking up our housing market. High of 79 in the forecast.
And you guys up there have been complaining about that since I lived in LA in the mid 80's
That doesn't make it any less true--we've been warming for a while now. Also, I'm pretty sure housing hasn't been increasing 7-10% YOY since the '80s.
Well, there was a bubble, but I certainly understand the problems Oregon and Washington have been putting up with.
I ain't moving up there until after coastal Washington and Oregon fall into the sea. And then, prolly not.
Joe Christensen filling in tonight for the STrib. I miss when he was a full-time baseball writer.
The reason Chris Gimenez excites me so much as a pitching prospect is the downward plane of his 64-mph get-us-outta-here fastball.
Yes, there is an NCAA-style bracket for the Home Run Derby. Yes, the winner will get World Series tickets. Yes, I filled one out. Yes, I picked Sano as the winner. I don't want to be cheering for anyone else but Sano in the derby. And yes, I am probably more excited about this than I probably should be, even more than when Morneau was in it (I had little hope for Mauer and Cuddyer).
I have a ticket to Sunday's game. I'd much rather see Bartolo pitch than Gibson.
Zack Granite is coming to town.
I do hope that this doesn't mean a shorter leash for Buxton.
Granite deserves to come up, but I wonder, too, what the plan is to give him playing time. I'd take the time away from Grossman, but I'm not sure I can see Molitor doing that. Could a trade be in the works?
The Batgirl haiku for him still entered my head whenever I hear his name.
Captain Cheeseburger
You are fat and butt ugly
Don't eat Nick Punto
I miss batgirl.
17776.
That is weirdly fascinating.
Holy crap. Bois is so, so weird.
ahh, i meant to post this a couple days ago.
that is one deep, wonderful rabbit hole
ha ha -- the HQ building is visible in the aerial flyover of Omaha
Okay, I need to leave before I waste my whole work day
Yup.
It's okay, only four chapters have been posted.
(six)
I blame being in Eastern Time Zone.
I still have my homemade PDF book of Bois's telling of the Legend of Tebow in the CFL.
This one does not look particularly PDFable.
I will (god-willing) turn 63 on March 27, 2043.
Brilliantly insane post. The "Please answer me" chapter is so simple, yet I found myself drawn into it deeply. Oh, the insecurity of loneliness...
That is one of the weirdest things I've seen in the internet, and that is saying a LOT.
Totally love it, btw
I agree on both counts.
I read it this morning too, and quite liked it. How much more? AND WHEN?
Going to guess another week's worth and every day of that week.

Don't believe the haters. Dwayne Johnson does NOT run like Tom Cruise.

The Twins will soon be able to claim the 2005 Cy Young winner pitched in their organization.
When I saw he had been canned, I wondered if he'd land here.
!!!
Missed it by...well, a little while
There's enough Colón for everyone.
I have a ticket to Sunday's game. I'd much rather see Bartolo pitch than Gibson.

Zach Granite is a perfect Flintstones name.
