Minor Details: Games of July 12

A good game for Felix Jorge.  Cedar Rapids gets blanked.  Brent Rooker keeps hitting.  So does Royce Lewis.  A solid game for Carlos Suniaga.  Lots of good pitching for the DSL Twins.

CHATTANOOGA 5, PENSACOLA 3 IN PENSACOLA (12 INNINGS)

LaMonte Wade hit a two-run double in a three-run fifth to give the Lookouts a 3-2 lead.  Tyler Goeddel then homered in the seventh to tie it 3-3.  It stayed tied until the twelfth, when Andy Wilkins doubled home the go-ahead run and a sacrifice fly brought in an insurance run.  The Blue Wahoos got the tying run up to bat with one out in the bottom of the inning, but a lineout and a strikeout ended the game.

Felix Jorge pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Todd Van Steensel pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.73 with 39 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.  Nick Anderson retired all six batters he faced, striking out three of them, to drop his ERA to 1.15 with an 0.96 WHIP with 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.  Luke Bard pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 2.63 with 65 strikeouts in 41 innings.  Alex Perez was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .371.  Wade was 2-for-4 with a double.  Wilkins was 2-for-6 with a double.  T. J. White was 2-for-6.

WEST MICHIGAN 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Austin Athmann singled home a run in the first and Zac Shepherd doubled one home in the sixth.  That was it.  The Kernels had only four hits.  The closest they came to scoring was in the fifth, when Hank Morrison was thrown out at home trying to score from second on a pickoff error.

Domenick Carlini pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Patrick McGuff struck out five in two shutout innings.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-3 with a double.

ELIZABETHTON 9, BURLINGTON 3 IN BURLINGTON

The Twins scored five in the second to take a 6-0 lead.  Ariel Montesino had a two-run double and Brent Rooker had a two-run homer in the inning.  The Royals cut the lead to 6-3 after six, but Elizabethton got two in the seventh and one in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Moises Gomez pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on ten hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Ricky Ramirez pitched 3.2 scoreless innings.  Montesino was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .300.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .359.  Rooker was 1-for-3 with a home run (his sixth) and two walks and is batting .323.  Jose Miranda hit a home run, his fourth.  Jordan Gore was 1-for-4 and is batting .406.

GCL TWINS 14, GCL ORIOLES 0 AT ORIOLES

Already leading 5-0, the Twins scored seven runs in the sixth to take control of the game.  The Twins hit three doubles in the inning and were aided by three walks and two hit batsmen.  The Orioles had only two hits and made four errors.

Carlos Suniaga struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks to make his ERA 1.35 with a WHIP of 0.60.  Matz Schutte pitched three shutout innings.  Humberto Maldonado was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBIs.  Victor Tademo was 2-for-4 with a double.  Royce Lewis was 2-for-4 with two walks and three runs and is batting .340.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-for-5 and is batting .318.  Alex Robles was 2-for-6 and is batting .340.  Darling Cuesto was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .077.

DSL TWINS 3, DSL NATIONALS 1 AT NATIONALS

The Nationals scored one in the first and the 1-0 lead held up until the fifth.  RBI singles by Alberoni Nunez and Estamy Urena put the Twins ahead 2-1.  They got an insurance run in the ninth on a walk, a single, an intentional walk, and a hit batsman.

Jesus Toledo pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout.  He has an ERA of 1.30 and a WHIP of 0.94.  Osiris German struck out four in four shutout innings to make his ERA 2.95.  Frandy Torres retired all six batters he faced, striking out four.  His ERA remains at zero with a WHIP of 0.86 and 20 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.  Nunez was 2-for-4 and is batting .318.  Wander Valdez was 2-for-4.  Urena was 2-for-5 and is batting .349.  Yeremi De La Cruz was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .091.
