Minor Details: Games of July 13

A rough debut for Bartolo Colon.  Steven Gonsalves continues to impress.  Alex Robinson makes a successful high-A debut.  Triples lead to a doubleheader sweep for the Miracle.  Only three hits for the Kernels.  A comeback falls short for the E-Twins.  Big innings sink both the GCL Twins and the DSL Twins.

LEHIGH VALLEY 6, ROCHESTER 1 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Andrew Pullin's two-run double gave the IronPigs a 4-0 lead in the fourth.  The Red Wings scored their lone run in the seventh but left the bases loaded.  They would not threaten again.  Lehigh Valley scored two in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Bartolo Colon struck out five in 3.2 innings but allowed four runs on four hits and two walks.  He threw 76 pitches.  D. J. Baxendale struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.  Alan Busenitz also struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings to make his ERA 1.97 with a WHIP of 0.84 and 35 strikeouts in 32 innings.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a double.

CHATTANOOGA 5, JACKSONVILLE 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

Three consecutive run-scoring hits with two out gave the Lookouts a 3-0 lead in the first.  The Jumbo Shrimp scored single runs in innings three through five to tie it 3-3 and took the lead in the seventh on an error.  In the ninth, a single and a walk put men on first and second with one out.  T. J. White doubled home a run to tie it and, following an intentional walk, a fielder's choice brought in the winning run.

Stephen Gonsalves struck out nine in five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.86 with a WHIP of 0.97 and 74 strikeouts in 63 innings.  Paul Clemens pitched a scoreless inning.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  White was also 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Alex Perez was 0-for-4 to make his average .333.

FORT MYERS 4, CHARLOTTE 3 IN CHARLOTTE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Stone Crabs scored three in the third to take a 3-0 lead.  Brandon Lopez doubled home a run in the fourth to get the Miracle on the board.  In the sixth, Mitchell Kranson hit a two-run double to tie it and later scored on a Jaylin Davis single to put Fort Myers ahead.  Charlotte did not get a man past first after that.

Lewis Thorpe pitched well other than in the third.  He went four innings and gave up three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  He threw 70 pitches.  Alex Robinson made his high-A debut by striking out all three batters he faced.  Keaton Steele and Sam Clay each pitched a scoreless inning, with Clay lowering his ERA to 1.54.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-3 with a double and is batting .333.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-3 and is batting .308.  Drew Hutcheon made his high-A debut (other than a pinch-running appearance) and was 0-for-3.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 3 IN CHARLOTTE (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Miracle scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning.  Jaylin Davis and Tanner English each hit a two-run triple in the inning.  The Stone Crabs scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.  They had the tying run up to bat in that tinning and had the tying run on base in the sixth, but the score remained the same.

Brady Anderson pitched five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Andrew Vasquez struck out five in two shutout innings.  His ERA remains at zero, his WHIP is 0.72, and he has 29 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.  Sean Miller was 3-for-3 with a double.  Tanner English was 2-for-4 with a triple.  He is 9-for-20 with three home runs and a triple in his last six games.  Brandon Lopez was 0-for-4 and is batting .309.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .304.

WEST MICHIGAN 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN WEST MICHIGAN (10 INNINGS)

In the sixth, Gorge Munoz homered to tie it at one and a sacrifice fly put the Kernels ahead 2-1.  The lead held up until the eighth, when Zac Shepherd's RBI single tied it 2-2.  In the tenth, Austin Athmann reached on an error and scored from first on a Danny Pinero double to win the game.

Evan Sanders pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.  The Kernels had just three hits and no one had more than one.  Munoz' homer was his second.

BURLINGTON 5, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN BURLINGTON

The Royals scored four in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  It stayed there until the ninth, when the Twins scored three times.  Wander Javier hit a two-run homer to make the score 5-4 with two out, but the home run killed the rally as a ground out ended the game.

Melvi Acosta did well until the fifth, but his line reads 4.1 innings, five runs, six hits, two walks, and one strikeout.  Jovani Moran struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings to keep his ERA at zero.  He has a WHIP of 0.71 with 18 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.  Jared Finkel pitched a perfect inning.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-2 with two walks and is batting .300.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .372.  Matt Albanese was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .321.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .306.  Brent Rooker was 0-for-5 and is batting .300.

GCL ORIOLES 9, GCL TWINS 5 AT TWINS

Roni Tapia hit a two-run double in a three-run fourth that put the Twins ahead 4-1.  The lead was short-lived, as the Orioles scored five in the fifth to take the lead to stay.  J. C. Escarra had a two-run single and Max Hogan had a two-run double in the inning.  The lead reached 9-3 before the Twins scored two in the eighth to make the final score look better.

Pedro Garcia pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on six his and no walks with three strikeouts.  Jose Bermudez pitched two shutout innings.  Tapia was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-3.  Kerby Camacho was 0-for-3 and is batting .357.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and is batting .326.  Alex Robles was 0-for-5 and is batting .309.  Brian Olson made his season debut and went 0-for-1 with a walk, but was removed from the game in the fifth inning.

DSL PHILLIES RED 6, DSL TWINS 1 AT PHILLIES RED

Juan Martinez singled in a run in the third to give the Twins a 1-0 lead, but that was as good as it would get.  The Phillies Red tied it in the fifth and took control of the game with four in the sixth.  Jevi Hernandez had a three-run double in the inning.

Andriu Marin pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Martinez and Alberoni Nunez were each 2-for-4, with Martinez batting .338 and Nunez .326.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-4 and is batting .361.  Agustin Marte was 1-for-4 and is batting .306.  Yeremi De La Cruz was 0-for-4 and is batting .067.
