Minor Details: Games of July 17

A Park Bang aided an Aaron Slegers shutout.  The Lookouts blow a big lead.  The Miracle blows a smaller lead.  Eduardo Del Rosario pitches well in defeat.  Two big innings turn a scoreless tie into a blowout win for the E-Twins.  Only in the DSL can you score nine runs on one hit.

ROCHESTER 5, CHARLOTTE 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings scored all their runs in the third inning.  They trailed 1-0, but J. B. Shuck and Tommy Field delivered RBI singles and Matt Hague came through with a three-run double.  In the sixth, a double, a single, and two walks made the score 5-2 and left the Knights with the bases loaded and none out.  A double play made it 5-3 and a wild pitch made it 5-4, but the last out was recorded and Charlotte went down in order in the seventh.  Ex-Twin Tyler Ladendorf was 1-for-3 with a double.

David Hurlbut pitched well for five innings but weakened in the sixth.  His line is five innings, three runs, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in a perfect seventh.  His ERA is 1.85 with 34 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.  Shuck and Field were each 2-for-3.

ROCHESTER 3, CHARLOTTE 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

ByungHo Park homered in the second to get the Red Wings on the board.  Matt Hague knocked in two with a single in the sixth.  That was more than enough, as the Knights did not get a hit until the fourth and never advanced a man past second base.

Aaron Slegers pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Park's home run was his fifth.  No Rochester player had more than one hit.

JACKSONVILLE 9, CHATTANOOGA 6 IN CHATTANOOGA

Andy Wilkins hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Lookouts a 6-0 lead.  That was as good as it would get for Chattanooga, as they got only two hits the rest of the game.  Meanwhile, the Jumbo Shrimp scored one in the fourth, five in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take the game away.  Doubles were their main weapon, as they hit one double in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Felix Jorge did well for four innings, but his line is 4.1 innings, six runs, nine hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.  Randy Rosario pitched a perfect inning to make his ERA 1.67 with a WHIP of 0.93.  Luke Bard pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 2.45 with 67 strikeouts in 44 innings.  Wilkins was 2-for-3 with a grand slam, his fourth homer.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .313.

ST. LUCIE 7, FORT MYERS 3 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle scored single runs in the second, third, and fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  That lead was wiped out in the sixth, as Jhoan Urena hit a two-run homer, Peter Alonso a solo homer, and Jose Garcia an RBI single to put the Mets ahead.  They added two in the eighth and one in the ninth.  Fort Myers had only two hits after the fifth inning.  Tim Tebow was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .308.

Keaton Steele struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Williams Ramirez pitched two shutout innings.  Andrew Vasquez pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, keeping his ERA at zero with a WHIP of 0.78 and 30 strikeouts in 18 innings.  Jermaine Palacios was 4-for-5 and is batting .341.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-5.  Dane Hutcheon was 0-for-4 and is hitless in nine at-bats.

SOUTH BEND 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN SOUTH BEND

The Kernels scored on a sacrifice fly in the first, but the Cubs scored two in the third and it was all they needed.  The runs scored on a two-run single by Alberto Mineo.  Cedar Rapids had men on first and second with none out in the ninth and advanced them to second and third with a bunt, but a ground out and a strikeout ended the game.

Eduardo Del Rosario pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Ryan Mason pitched a perfect inning to give him an ERA of 1.33.  Hector Lujan pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.72 with a WHIP of 0.90.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Hank Morrison was 2-for-4.

ELIZABETHTON 13, GREENEVILLE 0 IN GREENEVILLE

It was scoreless through seven innings.  The Twins then broke through in a big way, scoring five in the eighth and eight in the ninth.  Jose Miranda hit a solo homer and Matt Albanese hit a three-run homer in the eighth.  Andrew Bechtold hit a two-run homer in the ninth.

Huascar Ynoa struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Jose Martinez pitched three shutout innings to make his ERA 1.93 with a WHIP of 0.71 and 14 strikeouts in 14 innings.  Bechtold was 3-for-5 with a home run, his second, and is batting .343.  Shane Carrier was 3-for-5 and is batting .309.  Colton Waltner was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  Wander Javier was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Albanese was 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs and is batting .323.  Miranda was 2-for-6 with a home run, his fifth.

GCL RAYS AT GCL TWINS (SUSPENDED IN TOP OF FIRST)

The game was suspended after two batters due to lightning.

DSL ROCKIES 17, DSL TWINS 10 AT TWINS

The Twins scored on a sacrifice fly in the first, but the Rockies scored six in the third and nine in the fourth to go ahead 15-1.  The nine runs were scored on just one hit, as the Rockies received nine walks and also got the benefit of an error and a balk.  To their credit, the Twins managed to cut the deficit in half, but they never really threatened to get back into the game.

Luis Gil pitched 2.1 innings, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Prelander Berroa made his professional debut by pitching a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.  Samuel Vasquez, normally an outfielder, pitched a scoreless inning of relief.  Yeltsin Encarnacion, normally an infielder, pitched a perfect inning of relief.  Victor Heredia was 4-for-5.  Ruben Santana was 3-for-6 with a double and is batting .372.  Felix Reyes was 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple.  Zaino Henriquez was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Francisco Martinez was 2-for-5.  Encarnacion was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .357.  Juan Martinez was 1-for-4 and is batting .342.
