Minor Details: Games of July 21

A tremendous game by Tim Melville.  LaMonte Wade and Dereck Rodriguez lead the Lookouts.  Jermaine Palacios just keeps hitting.  A big day for Joe Cronin.  Akil Baddoo makes a successful debut for the E-Twins.  Homers by Estamy Urena and Alberoni Nunez carry the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 2, TOLEDO 0 IN ROCHESTER

Edgar Corcino singled in a run in the fifth and a run scored on a ground out in the sixth.  The Mud Hens did not get a hit until the fourth and did not get a man to third until the ninth, when a leadoff double and a ground out put Efren Navarro there with one out.  A popup and a fly out ended the game.

Tim Melville pitched eight shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk with four strikeouts to drop his ERA to 2.63.  Alan Busenitz pitched a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 1.78 with a WHIP of 0.82 and 39 strikeouts in 35.1 innings.  The Red Wings had six hits, all singles, and no one had more than one.

CHATTANOOGA 4, MOBILE 2 IN MOBILE

There was no score until the sixth, when Andy Wilkins hit a two-out solo homer.  LaMonte Wade hit a three-run homer in the seventh to make it 4-0.  The BayBears did not get on the board until the ninth, when RBI singles by Troy Montgomery and Zach Houchins made the score 4-2.  Mobile had men on first and third with one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.

Dereck Rodriguez struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  He threw 77 pitched and his ERA is now 2.95.  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double.  Wade was 2-for-5 and the home run was his sixth.  Wilkins' homer was his sixth.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with two walks and is batting .313.  Alex Perez was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .300.

TAMPA 6, FORT MYERS 4 IN FORT MYERS

Brandon Lopez singled in a run in the third, but the Yankees responded with four in the fourth and never trailed again.  Tim Lynch hit a two-run triple in the inning, Gosuke Katoh had an RBI triple, and Sharif Othman had a run-scoring double.  The Miracle did not get closer than two runs.  They scored two in the ninth to make it 6-4 and got the tying run up to bat with two out, but a ground out ended the game.

Sean Poppen pitched five innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning to keep his ERA at zero with a WHIP of 0.79 and 31 strikeouts in 19 innings.  Brent Rooker was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-5 with a triple and is batting .337.  Sean Miller was 3-for-5 with a double.  Lopez was 2-for-4 and is batting .316.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, GREAT LAKES 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored in six of their eight offensive innings.  The Loons scored three in the fifth to tie it 4-4, but Joe Cronin homered in the bottom of the fifth, Trey Cabbage doubled and scored in the sixth, and Caleb Hamilton doubled home a run in the eighth.  Great Lakes loaded the bases with none out in the seventh but failed to score.

Evan Sanders struck out seven in five innings but gave up four runs on just two hits but five walks.  Colton Davis struck out two in two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.79.  Hector Lujan struck out three in two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 1.63 with a WHIP of 0.91.   Cabbage was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  Hamilton was 2-for-3 with a double.  Cronin was 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double.

BLUEFIELD 8, ELIZABETHTON 5 IN ELIZABETHTON (13 INNINGS)

It was a see-saw game.  The Twins led 1-0, the Blue Jays led 2-1, the Twins led 3-2, it was tied 3-3, the Twins led 5-3, and an error and a wild pitch scored two Bluefield runs in the eighth to tie it 5-5.  Neither team really had much of a threat until the thirteenth, when a two-run single-plus-error by Brandon Grudzielanek and an RBI single by Antony Fuentes put the Blue Jays ahead 8-5.  Elizabethton opened the bottom of the thirteenth with two singles, bringing the tying run up to bat with none out, but a popup and two strikeouts ended the game.

Bryan Sammons pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and no hits with five strikeouts.  His ERA is 1.82, his WHIP is 0.92, and he has 25 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.  Jose Martinez pitched 4.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.47 with a WHIP of 0.76.  Jordan Gore was 3-for-6 and is batting .400.  Carson Crites was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and three runs.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-6 with a double in his Elizabethton debut.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-6 with a double and is batting .310.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-6 and is batting .360.  Matt Albanese was 1-for-6 and is batting .303.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL YANKEES 5 AT TWINS

Estamy Urena hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Twins a 3-1 lead.  The Yankees came back with four in the sixth, scoring two on a double by Asdrubal Alvarez and scoring two more on an error.  Undaunted, the Twins got one in the bottom of the sixth and took control of the game in the seventh when Alberoni Nunez hit a three-run homer.  Urena added an RBI single in the eighth.

Jesus Toledo pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  His ERA is now 1.47.  Fernando Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning.  Ruben Santana was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three runs, raising his average to .376. Yeremi De La Cruz was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Urena was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second) and three RBIs to make his average .366.  Jesus Feliz was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 2-for-4 with two doubles and is batting .366.  Nunez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and is batting .349.  Juan Martinez was 1-for-4 and is batting .333.
