Minor Details: Games of July 23

Aaron Slegers continues to pitch well.  Felix Jorge has consecutive bad games.  It was deuces wild in Fort Myers.  Clark Beeker is quietly having a really good run.  The E-Twins made a comeback, only to see it all go away.

ROCHESTER 7, TOLEDO 1 IN ROCHESTER

Mitch Garver homered in a two-run first and Kennys Vargas hit a two-run homer in a four-run second to put the Red Wings ahead 6-0.  The Mud Hens did not get on the board until the sixth and did not threaten to get back into the game.

Aaron Slegers had his third consecutive excellent game, striking out seven in seven innings and giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Drew Rucinski struck out two in a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.60 with a WHIP of 0.84.  Jake Reed struck out two in a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 2.14.  Garver was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourteenth), a double, and two walks.  Matt Hague was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Vargas' home run was his fifth.  Daniel Palka returned to Rochester after a rehab assignment and was 1-for-2 with two walks.

MOBILE 6, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN MOBILE

The BayBears scored one in the first, three in the second, and two in the third to build a 6-0 lead.  It was 6-1 through seven, but the Lookouts scored three in the eighth to get back into the game.  They had the tying run on base with two out in both the eighth and the ninth but could not do anything with them.

Felix Jorge had his second consecutive poor outing, lasting only 2.2 innings and allowing six runs on ten hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Todd Van Steensel pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.47 with 47 strikeouts in 43 innings.  Paul Clemens struck out two in two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.87.  Luke Bard pitched a perfect inning to lower his ERA to 2.35 with 69 strikeouts in 46 innings.  Carlos Paulino was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .333.  Andy Wilkins was 3-for-5 with a home run (his seventh) and a double.  Alex Perez was 2-for-4 and is batting .333.  Max Murphy was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 0-for-4 and is batting .311.

TAMPA 6, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Tim Lynch hit a two-run homer in the first, Sharif Othman hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and the Yankees added two more in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead.  The Miracle scored two in the bottom of the seventh but did not threaten to get back into the game.

Brady Anderson pitched six innings but gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Tom Hackimer struck out four in two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.21 with 24 strikeouts in 22.1 innings.  Sam Clay struck out two in a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.44.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-4 and is batting .327.  Brandon Lopez was 1-for-4 and is batting .310.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, LANSING 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Caleb Hamilton had a two-run single in the first, the Kernels scored two in the third, and Amaurys Minier hit a grand slam in the fifth to give Cedar Rapids an 8-0 lead.  The Lugnuts threatened in the eighth, scoring five times to get back into the game, but did not bring the tying run up to bat.

Clark Beeker had his fifth consecutive strong game, pitching six shutout innings while giving up four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.51.  Hamilton was 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.  Hank Morrison was 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs.  Aaron Whitefield and Travis Blankenhorn were each 2-for-5.  Minier's grand slam was his third homer.

BLUEFIELD 11, ELIZABETHTON 9 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Blue Jays scored four in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.  Jose Miranda hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-4.  Kolton Kendrick homered to lead off the sixth and Shane Carrier hit a three-run homer later in the inning to put the Twins up 8-6.  In the eighth, however, two-run singles by Yorman Rodriguez and Mc Gregory Contreras highlighted a five-run inning that gave Bluefield an 11-8 advantage.  The Twins got one back in the bottom of the eighth but did not get the tying run on base.

Huascar Ynoa pitched just 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Bailey Ober pitched three shutout innings in his professional debut.  Akil Baddoo was 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and three runs and is batting .417.  Jordan Gore was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .418.  Carrier was 2-for-5 with a home run (his third) and is batting .323.  Miranda was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and is batting .313.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-5 and is batting .345.  Rainis Silva was 1-for-3 with two walks and is batting .326.
