Minor Details: Games of July 25

A rough first rehab start for Hector Santiago.  A big inning carries Chattanooga.  Cody Stashak goes on the DL as Fort Myers wins late.  Back-to-back homers lead the E-Twins.  Derek Molina has a successful professional debut.

INDIANAPOLIS 5, ROCHESTER 2 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Joey Terdoslavich doubled home a run in the first and the Indians scored three runs on two hits in the second to take control of the game early.  The Red Wings did not get on the board until the sixth and did not get closer than three runs.

Hector Santiago pitched one inning, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.  He was on a pitch count of 35 (actual count 36), which makes one wonder how ready he really is.  Drew Rucinski threw four shutout innings of relief to drop his ERA to 1.45 with a WHIP of 0.76.  Michael Tonkin struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.67 with 39 strikeouts in 27 innings.  Matt Hague was 3-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with a walk.

CHATTANOOGA 9, BIRMINGHAM 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

It was 3-2 Lookouts going to the bottom of the sixth, when Chattanooga scored six times to put the game out of reach.  They drew four walks in the inning, which also featured a two-run single by Carlos Paulino and a two-run double by LaMonte Wade.  There were two out and none on when the fireworks started.

Stephen Gonsalves struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks to make his ERA 2.78.  He has 88 strikeouts in 74.1 innings.  Nick Anderson struck out two in a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 0.93 with a WHIP of 0.83 and 24 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.  Andy Wilkins was 3-for-4 with a home run, his eighth, and a walk.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .313.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5.

FORT MYERS 4, LAKELAND 1 IN LAKELAND (13 INNINGS)

The Flying Tigers scored on a sacrifice fly in the seventh and the Miracle scored on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.  It stayed tied until the thirteenth, when Nelson Molina delivered a pinch-hit two-run double to put Fort Myers in the lead to stay.  Another run scored on a passed ball.  Lakeland did not bring the tying run up to bat in the bottom of the thirteenth.

Cody Stashak pitched two shutout innings, then left the game with an injury and went on the disabled list.  I have no information as to what the injury is.  David Fischer pitched three shutout innings.  Alex Muren pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to make his ERA 2.08 with 26 strikeouts in 26 innings.  Sam Clay struck out four in three shutout innings to lower his ERA to 1.36.  Tom Hackimer pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.16 with 25 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-5 and is batting .301.  Brian Navaretto was also 2-for-5.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-7 with a triple and is batting .314.

ELIZABETHTON 9, PULASKI 3 IN PULASKI

The Twins took a 3-0 lead in the second, but the Braves closed to 3-2 after four.  The Twins then scored four in the fifth to take control of the game.  Akil Baddoo had a triple in the inning, Shane Carrier had a two-run homer, and Kolton Kendrick had a solo homer.

Melvi Acosta pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts.  Ricky Ramirez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.  Robert Molina was 2-for-4 with a double.  Carrier was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fourth, and is batting .330.  Kendrick was also 2-for-5 with a home run, his third.  Baddoo was 2-for-5 with a triple and is batting .304.  Jordan Gore was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .390.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .336.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .333.

GCL TWINS 8, GCL ORIOLES 5 AT ORIOLES

The Twins opened with two in the first.  They then got three in the second, with two of the runs scoring on a triple-plus-error by Jean Carlos Arias.  Three in the fourth made it 8-0.  The Orioles scored all five of their runs in the sixth, with four of them scoring on a rally-killing grand slam by Jose Lizarraga.  The Orioles got only one hit after that.

Derek Molina struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks in his professional debut.  Vadim Balan pitched three shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero in 11.2 innings.  Arias was 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs and is batting .309.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-for-5 and is batting .306.  Alex Robles was 1-for-5 and is batting .325.  Kerby Camacho was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting  .300.
