Minor Details: Games of August 4

Dietrich Enns makes a solid Twins debut.  Stephen Gonsalves continues to pitch well.  So does Lewis Thorpe.  And so does Clark Beeker.  A big day for Robert Molina.  Jean Carlos Arias keeps hitting.  So does Yeltsin Encarnacion, as the extra-inning rule and a four-base error decide give the DSL Twins a win.

SYRACUSE 2, ROCHESTER 1 IN SYRACUSE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Clint Robinson homered leading off the second and Michael Almanzar singled in a run later in the inning.  That was as much as the Chiefs needed, as the lone Rochester run came in the fifth on a double play.  The Red Wings loaded the bases with two out in the sixth but failed to score.

Dietrich Enns pitched a six-inning complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.38.  The Red Wings had five hits, two of them doubles, but no one had more than one.

ROCHESTER 3, SYRACUSE 2 IN SYRACUSE (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Leonardo Reginatto delivered a two-run single in the fourth to put the Red Wings up 2-0.  The Chiefs got single runs in the fourth and sixth to tie it.  Rochester put men on second and third in the seventh, then got two consecutive one-out walks to force in a run and take the lead.  Syracuse got a man to second with none out in the bottom of the seventh but could not advance him farther.

Nik Turley struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.83 with 67 strikeouts in 57.1 innings.  Jake Reed struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 1.45 with a WHIP of 0.91.  Reginatto and Mitch Garver were each 2-for-3 with a double.

CHATTANOOGA 3, JACKSON 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

T. J. White homered in the second and Nick Gordon homered in the third to put the Lookouts up 2-0.  a sacrifice fly brought home a run in the eighth.  The lone Generals run came on a Michael Perez homer in the ninth.

Stephen Gonsalves pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.68 with 96 strikeouts in 87.1 innings.  Todd Van Steensel struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.48 with 53 strikeouts in 48.1 innings.  White was 2-for-4 with a double in addition to his eleventh home run.  Gordon's homer was his eighth.  Carlos Paulino was 0-for-3 and is batting .358.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .316.

FORT MYERS 5, JUPITER 0 IN FORT MYERS

Kevin Garcia hit a two-run single in a three-run third to start the scoring.  The Miracle added two in the fourth to take control of the game.  The closest the Hammerheads came to scoring was in the fifth, when three two-out walks loaded the bases.

Lewis Thorpe struck out nine in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.  His ERA is 2.79 with 64 strikeouts in 58 innings.  Michael Theofanopoulos struck out four in two shutout innings.  Williams Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings.  Garcia was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .306.

KANE COUNTY 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

Neither team even got a man to third base until the ninth.  In the tenth, Cole Thompson's two-out two-run single gave the Cougars the runs they needed.  The game ended when Ben Rortvedt was thrown out trying to score from second on a single.

Clark Beeker had another fine game, going 8.2 scoreless innings and giving up four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.15 with a WHIP of 0.93.  Jordan Gore was 2-for-4 and is batting .364.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-4 and is batting .300.

ELIZABETHTON 10, BURLINGTON 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

T. J. Dixon had a two-run single in a three-run fifth that gave the Twins a 3-0 lead.  The Royals cut the margin to 3-2 in the fourth, but the Twins scored three in the sixth and put the game out of reach with four in the seventh.

Brusdar Graterol pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Randy Dobnak had a rough professional debut, although he did get a save.  He pitched four innings and allowed three runs on three hits and a walk.  He struck out five.  Robert Molina was 3-for-5 with a double.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-4 with two walks and is batting .313.  Ariel Montesino was 2-for-4 with a walk.  J. J. Robinson was 2-for-5 with a double.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-5 and is batting .348.  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .313.

GCL TWINS 9, GCL RED SOX 8 AT RED SOX

The Twins had leads of 6-1 and 8-4 but had to hold on to win.  The Red Sox had the tying run on second base with one out in the ninth, but a ground out and a popup ended the game.

Carlos Suniaga pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.28.  David Gerics made his professional debut, pitching one inning and giving up an unearned run on no hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Jean Carlos Arias was 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk and is batting .308.  Jared Akins was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs and is batting .316.  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .317.  Alex Robles was 2-for-5 and is batting .330.  Colton Burns was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .308.

DSL TWINS 12, DSL CARDINALS 10 AT CARDINALS (10 INNINGS)

The Twins led 3-0 and 5-2, but the Cardinals scored five in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead.  It was 9-7 Cardinals after seven, but the Twins tied it with two in the ninth.  In the tenth, we had the goofy "start with a man on second" rule.  A walk put them on first and second, and Yeltsin Encarnacion then circled the bases on a three-run throwing error on a bunt.  The Cardinals got one back in the bottom of the tenth but did not get the tying run up to bat.

Luis Gil struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  His ERA is 2.94 with 38 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.  Victor Heredia was 3-for-5 and is batting .300.  Yeremi De La Cruz was 3-for-6 with a triple.  Francisco Martinez was 3-for-6 with a double.  Wander Valdez was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Encarnacion was 2-for-4 and is batting .352.  Juan Martinez was 1-for-5 and is batting .305.
