          1. I'm with you. I often wonder whether books like this have more appeal for nostalgic parents/grandparents than for kids.

            1. I think it depends on the message of the book. I bought the Poissonnier this picture book about Mary Lou Williams. There's something in so many stories that kids can take away as a formative, positive ethos; it's just up to the author to convey it in a way that isn't overly precious or nostalgic for a time well before the kid's own. If the kid's likely to hear that music, they might as well understand something about where it came from.
