Game 132: White Sox at Twins

When is it okay to begin truly scoreboard watching? I only ask because the Tribe beat dem Yanks in their first game today, and a win by Berrios, combined with another NY Loss tonight, would leave the Twins only 1 game behind the first Wild Card spot ... I'm not looking behind 'em (the O's have won 6 in a row and LAA play Oakland again this evening after beating them 8-2 last night).

Lets hope the Twins and Berrios are a little sharper against Holland and the Sox this week. Looks like Kepler's struggles against lefties (2017: .131/.202/.172--career: .170/.240/.252) will keep him out of the starting lineup, Garver sees his second start behind the dish, and your 3 & 4 hitters appear to be Buxton and Polanco. If you'd have told me in June that those fellas would be hitting in those spots in late August and the Twins would also be in contention for the post-season(!?!) ... I probably would have asked you if you'd been watching those Twins at all in 2017.

  1. Post All Star break is a good time to start scoreboard watching.

Defense showed up in the first inning!

  2. I don't understand Adrianza in left rather than Granite. I assume it's sitting Granite against a lefthander, but it's not like Adrianza is such a stout stick, and I have to think Granite would be a superior defender.

  3. Minor league pennant race update: Rochester trails Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4-0 in the fifth, while Lehigh Valley leads Syracuse 7-3 in the eighth. If those scores hold up, the Red Wings' lead in the wild card race will be down to two. Fort Myers and St. Lucie are tied 3-3 in the seventh while Charlotte has already defeated Clearwater 6-4, so the Miracle will not clinch the division tonight.

  4. I guess I'm okay with a warning--you don't want things to get out of hand--but I really doubt that either of the hit batsmen was intentional.

  5. Minor league pennant race update: Fort Myers wins 4-3 in ten innings, so their magic number should be down to one. Rochester scored three in the sixth but still trails 4-3 in the seventh. Lehigh Valley has won their game 7-4, so the Red Wings need to come back to keep their lead at three games.

    1. Everyone was making such a big deal about the Kevin Pillar catch the other day. I was thinking "Buxton does that about every other night."

    2. Dr. Chop told me about it, and even said that it was pretty awesome. This is huge, folks. Dr. Chop has resisted baseball since forever, and after Morneau exited the twins she's seen no reason to participate. Maybe, just maybe, we can hope that she's found a new fella in the lineup to root for. Fingers crossed.

  6. I guess that's why Adrianza's in the game! Too bad he was thrown out at the plate, but still, two RBIs!

    1. In my head I was thinking it kinda sucks getting thrown out at home attempting the little league home run, but while that was happening I heard my cat horfing up a hairball and that sucks way more.

  7. That was a really long pause until Gameday updated. "Official Scorer ruling pending" says Gameday.

    1. Ok, time to come clean. I was a huge Rosario fan when he was in Elizabethton. But since he came up to the majors, I have been a naysayer. I think it is time to say I was wrong. Dude can rake. Still don't like the baserunning. But man can he hit the ball. Maybe he should be part of our future.

      1. Baserunning and defense (either the way he plays a ball, or completely misses the cutoff man) drove me nuts for the first 3 or so months of the season.

  8. So, a two home run night from both sides of the plate followed up by triples from each side of the dish. Ho-hum.

  9. With the O's winning again tonight, I decided to take a look ahead at their schedule. They have 6 scheduled against the Yankees, 3 against Cleveland, and 3 against Boston. They also have 2 off days in the last week of the season.

    1. Angels have a more forgiving schedule, but it still includes 6 against Houston and 3 against Cleveland.

  10. Sorry I'm late to the party, I was rewatching Moneyball while keeping an eye on the score updates on my phone. BTW, the movie and this game end the same way:

  11. Im thinking Pelf was left out there so Berrios would have to wait 7 hours to pitch again. So the Twins took Berrios out of the game.
