    1. The Twins don't score in the ninth and lose 2-0. The Dodgers2 win the best of three series, two games to one.

      1. As I look at it more closely, it appears the Twins did not get to finish the ninth inning. With one out, the game was called due to rain. It is considered a complete, official game, so the Twins still lose the series.

  2. I've been at the shore of Lake Minnetonka for ten minutes and already seen 72 cans of Natty Light being brought on board various vessels. Apparently, it's what the children of yachters drink.

  3. Mauer is currently 11th in the AL in batting average at .297. He has no chance of winning with Altuve batting .355. However, he's only 6 points behind Josh Reddick, who is 5th in the AL at .303.

    1. Also, Sano has now fallen to third in the AL in strikeouts. Aaron Judge leads with 177, Khris Davis at 176 and Sano at 170. Judge is batting .181/.344/.348 in the second half.

  4. I moved Younger Daughter's stuff to her new apartment yesterday, but she's working today and tomorrow so won't move out out until Monday. Mrs. Twayn and I are not ambivalent. We want our empty nest back while we're still young enough to enjoy it. Of course, at the end of November, Elder Daughter moves back from Washington. So I've got a three month window for walking around the house in just my underwear if I want to.

  5. The new headlights for Younger Daughters BMW came in yesterday. I got them installed but couldn't figure out the wiring. The D'oh moment came when I was checking some forums and realized that because I'm retrofitting halo projector headlights (introduced in 2001) into a 1999 car I don't have the right plugs in the wiring harness. In the old headlights, the turn signal bulb was double filament and worked the turn signal and parking lights. The new headlights use a single filament bulb for the turn signal and have a separate connector for the halo LEDs. So I have to cut off the old connector and splice in two new connectors. I can make it work as is for now, I have high and low beams and turn signals and parking lights, but no halos until I run power to them.

    1. You could probably sacrifice the wires for the turn signal bulb since, as far as I'm aware, BMW's don't any way of activating them from inside the car.

  6. In the spirit of labor day shopping, I took the wife out to BedBath&Beyond to get a new toilet seat cover (the old one never fit), and we ended up also buying new pillows (and some other junk in the Beyond section).

I got the Therapedic TruCool Side Sleeper Pillow, as I'm mostly a side sleeper, and am interested in the cooling technology. I'll post a review oncet sleep happens.

    On the Stove: Tindori Thoran
Tindori (small cucumber like vegetables found at your Indian groc store), turmeric, raw cashew nuts, mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chiles, onion, desiccated coconut, salt.

Quarter the tindori lengthwise - boil in salted water with some turmeric for 5 minutes, and drain.
Stir-fry the cashews in some oil until golden - set aside.
And now comes the drama - heat oil in frying pan, add 1 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds, and cover with a lid as they will pop all over the place. When popping subsides, add curry leaves (10 should do the job), red chiles (2), and chopped onion, cooking till the onion is soft. Stir in a little more turmeric, salt, and cook a little longer, then add the tindori and cashews, and cook for another 3-4 minutes, but keep stirring.
Move everything to a serving dish, and mix in the coconut, and serve while hot. Store-bought rotis work with this dish, as does Resin (Six-Point). Six Point also makes the Bengali, also a fav.

    1. The more I learn about it, the more I love Keralite cuisine. That sounds delicious. We make a similar thoran with green beans, corn, and shredded unsweetened coconut, particularly during the Great Fast.

    2. I'm following the doc's lead and smoking Pibil this weekend, tho i ain't taking the short cut with the slow cooker /wink

      1. I finally got around to making the marinade this morning.

Munch was great. Now at Thirsty Bear, across the street.
