Half-Baked Hall: 1957-1963 Ballot

We're now entering the part of the ballot that gets perhaps somewhat trickier, as a lot of the players lost time due to being in the Negro Leagues, being at war, or both. So when you look at Ted Williams and debating whether or not he qualifies, remember he lost five years to war.

We've also got our first Negro League only player on a ballot. Dread Pirate will do the honors this time.

  1. George Clyde Kell

    3 bagger, batting right-handed - a solid fielder. Played 15 seasons: Phila Athletics (3), Detroilet Tigers (5), BoSox (2), ChiSox (3), O’s (2). 83’ HOF’er. Also a long-time sqwauker for Detroilet.

All Star for 10 seasons (hitting .300 or more for 9 seasons), and hard to strike out - 287 times in 6,702 ABs in his career (4.28%, howzat).

George was from Swifton, AR. The only thing to happen there was him.

Although a great sqwauker, as a player he was over .300 nine times, topped the league in assists - he deserves our interest (and votes).

  2. "Virgil Trucks" ... easily the best name of any player I will have profiled. Hope his bball career lives up to it.

    /edit to add/ - "Al Dark" ain't bad either.
