Minor Details: Games of September 8

T. J. White and Felix Jorge bring the Lookouts to within one win of a co-championship.  Jovani Moran preserves the win as Elizabethton wins the Appalachian League championship.

CHATTANOOGA 2, MONTGOMERY 0 IN MONTGOMERY

T. J. White hit a two-run homer with one out in the fourth, and that was all the scoring there was.  The Biscuits only twice got a man past first base, and both times it came with two out.  Grant Kay hit a two-out double in the second and Joe McCarthy hit a two-out double-plus-error in the third.

Other than White, the star of the game was Felix Jorge, who pitched six shutout innings and gave up three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Todd Van Steensel struck out three in two shutout innings.  Gabriel Moya came in to pitch a perfect ninth.  White's homer was his third in the playoffs.  The Lookouts now lead the best-of-five series 2-1.

ELIZABETHTON 8, PULASKI 7 IN PULASKI

Back-to-back one-out doubles put the Yankees on the board in the first.  The Twins came back with three in the second and Mark Contreras hit a three-run homer in the third.  An error plated two runs in the fourth to give Elizabethton an 8-1 lead.  They needed every one of those runs, as Pulaski came back strong.  Evan Alexander hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-3.  In the seventh, Jesus Bastidas and Eric Wagaman hit back-to-back homers and the Yankees added two more later in the inning to cut the lead to 8-7.  They had the tying run on first with two out, but Jovani Moran came on to retire the last seven Pulaski batters and preserve the victory.

Moises Gomez struck out six in five innings but gave up three runs on four hits and three walks.  Moran retired all seven batters he faced, striking out four of them.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk.  T. J. Dixon was 2-for-4.  Contreras was 2-for-5 with his second home run of the playoffs and three RBIs.  Elizabethton wins the best-of three series 2-0 and wins the Appalachian League championship.
