Off-Seasons Greetings: Games of October 10

And we're back, with action from the Arizona Fall League, the Venezuelan League, and the Mexican League.  The Dominican League is scheduled to start Friday, with the Puerto Rican League not slated to get under way for a couple of weeks yet.  The Australian League doesn't get started until mid-November.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

SALT RIVER 4, SURPRISE 3 IN SURPRISE

Twins:  The Twins prospects are with Surprise this year.  Chris Paul was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-3 with a double.  Tyler Jay pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Michael Perez (Arizona) hit a two-run double in the second to give the Rafters the lead for good.  Lucas Erceg (Milwaukee) was 2-for-2 with two doubles for Salt River.

PEORIA 3, GLENDALE 0 IN PEORIA

Michael Chavis' (Boston) two-run double in the third put the Javelinas up 2-0.  Max Fried (Atlanta) struck out seven in three shutout innings for Peoria, giving up three hits and a walk.

SCOTTSDALE 7, MESA 4 IN SCOTTSDALE

A four-run third, highlighted by Billy McKinney's (Yankees) three-run homer, gave the Scorpions control of the game.  Tomas Nido (Mets) also homered for Scottsdale.  Justus Sheffield (Yankees) struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up just one hit and no walks.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Anthony Marzi (Margarita) pitched four innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

MARGARITA 12, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Margarita led 4-3 through seven, then scored three in the eighth and five in the ninth to put it away.  Alfredo Angarita was 3-for-5 for Margarita and David Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit three-run homer.

LA GUAIRA 4, CARACAS 3 IN LA GUAIRA

A wild pitch brought home the winning run for La Guaira in the bottom of the ninth.  Nate Orf was 4-for-4 for La Guaira.  Alexander Palma led Caracas, going 3-for-5.

ZULIA 5, MAGALLANES 4 IN ZULIA (10 INNINGS)

A sacrifice fly tied it in the ninth and Herlis Rodriguez' RBI single won it for Zulia in the bottom of the tenth.  Humberto Arteaga was 4-for-6 in a losing effort for Magallanes and Frankie De La Cruz pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts for Magallanes.

LARA 3, ARAGUA 0 IN LARA

Adam Law's two-run triple in the fourth gave Lara all the runs they needed.  Nestor Molina struck out six in 5.1 scoreless innings for Lara, giving up four hits and walking none.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

MEXICALI 7, LOS MOCHIS 6 IN MEXICALI

Mexicali led 5-1, but fell behind and needed an RBI single by C. J. Retherford in the eighth to pull the game out.  Walter Ibarra was 2-for-3 with a grand slam for Mexicali.  Sebastian Valle was 2-for-2 with two home runs, a walk, and three RBIs to lead Los Mochis.
