Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of October 13

Chris Paul has a good game and Andrew Vasquez pitches a perfect inning.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

GLENDALE 7, SURPRISE 6 IN SURPRISE

Twins:  Chris Paul was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Tyler Jay pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Seby Zavala (White Sox) hit a two-run double in a four-run first that put Glendale ahead to stay.  It was 6-1 after five, but Surprise battled back to 6-5 after seven.  They had the bases loaded with two out in the ninth, but a ground out ended the game.  Zavala was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

MESA 4, PEORIA 2 IN PEORIA

The first inning again made the difference, as David Bote (Cubs) homered and Sheldon Neuse (Oakland) hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0.  It was the second home run of the season for each.  Josh Naylor (San Diego) hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2, but that was as close as Peoria would come.  Framber Valdez (Houston) pitched three shutout innings for Mesa, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

SALT RIVER 6, SCOTTSDALE 4 IN SCOTTSDALE

Salt River built a 6-0 lead after four innings.  Scottsdale scored three in the eighth to make it 6-4 but did not get the tying run on base.  Yonthan Daza (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a walk for Salt River.  Zach Jemiola (Colorado) struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto was 1-for-4 for Margarita.  Edwar Colina pitched a third of an inning for Magallanes, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

CARACAS 7, MARGARITA 1 IN CARACAS

Leading 1-0 after six, Caracas scored three in the seventh and three in the eighth to take control of the game.  Javier Betancourt was 3-for-4 with a double, Henry Ramos was 3-for-5 with a triple, and Alexander Palma was 3-for-5 with a double, all for Caracas.  Dylan Unsworth pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with no strikeouts.

LARA 8, MAGALLANES 3 IN LARA

Trailing 3-1, Lara scored three in the seventh to take the lead and four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Jesus Montero was 4-for-5 with two doubles to lead Lara.  Chuck Taylor was 3-for-5 with a home run.

ZULIA 1, LA GUAIRA 0 IN ZULIA

The game's lone run scored in the eighth on a walk, a bunt, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.  Reiner Roibal struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Edgar De La Rosa pitched 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

ARAGUA 9, ANZOATEGUI 2 IN ANZOATEGUI

Leading 4-2, Aragua scored four in the sixth to put the game away.  Luis Villegas was 3-for-5 with two home runs, his second and third.  Alberto Gonzales was 3-for-5.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

JALISCO 7, OBREGON 4 IN JALISCO

Amadeo Zazueta hit a two-run triple in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie and lead Jalisco to victory.  Zazueta was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Carlos Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double.  Billy Burns was 3-for-5.

CULIACAN 3, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN CULIACAN

Culiacan scored one in the second and two in the fourth.  Alfredo Amezaga (remember him?) was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Daniel Rodriguez pitched six shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk with one strikeout.

MAZATLAN 3, MEXICALI 2 IN MAZATLAN

Carlos Munoz' RBI double in the seventh tied it 2-2 and three walks and a wild pitch brought home the winning run in the ninth.  Jose Aguilar was 3-for-3 with a walk for Mazatlan.  Alejandro Soto pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

HERMOSILLO 6, NAVOJOA 4 IN NAVOJOA

Hermosillo led 5-1 before Navojoa came back to make a game of it.  In fact, Navojoa had the tying run in scoring position with two out in the ninth.  Alejandro Flores was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, his second.  Efren Navarro was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Ryan Verdugo pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

AGUILAS 9, LICEY 3 IN LICEY

Leading 4-2, the Aguilas scored four in the eighth to take control of the game.  Ronny Rodriguez was 4-for-6 with a double.  Erick Mejia was 3-for-5.
