Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of November 14

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Twins:  Chris Paul was 2-for-4.  Ryan Eades struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

SURPRISE 6, SCOTTSDALE 5 IN SURPRISE

Surprise trailed 5-0 after three and still trailed 5-2 after seven.  Edmundo Sosa (St. Louis) had a two-run double in a three-run eighth that tied the score.  In the ninth, Yanio Perez (Texas) singled home the winning run with one out.  For Scottsdale, Estevan Florial (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Tyler Beede (San Francisco) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with one strikeout.

GLENDALE 5, MESA 1 IN MESA

Cornelius Randolph's (Philadelphia) two-run single in the first inning gave Glendale all the runs they really needed.  It was 2-1 after one, but Glendale added single runs in the fourth, sixth, and eighth.  Zach Green (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double.  Sean Brady (Cleveland) pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two.  Sheldon Neuse (Oakland) hit a home run for Mesa, his fifth.

SALT RIVER 11, PEORIA 4 IN SALT RIVER

Salt River led 5-0 after three.  Peoria cut the margin to 5-3, but Peoria scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Brian Mundell (Colorado) was 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, and three RBIs.  Monte Harrison (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his fifth) and a walk, scoring three times.  Anthony Santander (Baltimore) was 2-for-5 with a triple, a double, and three RBIs.  For Peoria, Michael Chavis (Boston) was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his third and fourth) and three RBIs.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

MARGARITA 4, LARA 2 IN MARGARITA

Lara scored one in the first, but Margarita got two in the second and two in the third to go up 4-1.  Leonardo Reginatto hit a two-run homer in the second to give Margarita the lead.  Omar Poveda pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Henry Urrutia hit a home run for Lara, his third.

ARAGUA 5, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN ARAGUA

Francisco Arcia's two-run single in the eighth broke a 3-3 tie.  Alberti Chavez was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  Alberto Callaspo was 3-for-4.  Luis Jimenez hit a three-run homer for Anzoategui, his third.

MAGALLANES 4, ZULIA 2 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes scored two in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie, with Adonis Garcia driving in the go-ahead run with a single.  Ronny Cedeno was 4-for-4.  Jesus Tinoco pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with no strikeouts.  Herlis Rodriguez was 4-for-4 for Zulia.  Carlos Moncrief hit a home run, his second.  Wilfredo Boscan pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts.  The two teams combined for only four strikeouts.

CARACAS 8, LA GUAIRA 4 IN LA GUAIRA

Caracas took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  La Guaira cut it to 3-2 in the fourth, but in the seventh Caracas scored five more to put the game out of reach.  Trayvon Robinson was 3-for-5 with a double.  Seth Frankoff pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

JALISCO 15, LOS MOCHIS 3 IN JALISCO

Japhet Amador hit a two-run double in a four-run fourth that put Jalisco up 6-2.  Amadeo Zazueta was 4-for-5 with three doubles and a walk, scoring three times.  Manny Rodriguez was 3-for-6 with a home run (his fifth), a double, and three RBIs.  Billy Burns was 3-for-6 with three runs.  Jarrod Saltalamacchia was 1-for-2 with a home run (his third) and two walks.  Juan Carlos Gamboa hit a home run for Los Mochis, his second.

NAVOJOA 4, OBREGON 2 IN NAVOJOA

Navojoa scored two in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, with the go-ahead run coming in on a wild pitch.  Quincy Latimore was 3-for-4 with a double.  Randy Arozarena hit a home run, his sixth.  Raul Carrillo pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.

CULIACAN 5, MEXICALI 4 IN CULIACAN (10 INNINGS)

Culiacan scored four in the third to go ahead 4-1, but Mexicali tied it with single runs in the fourth, seventh, and ninth.  With two out in the tenth, Sebastian Elizalde scored from first on a single by Ronnier Mustelier to win the game.  Elizalde was 4-for-5.  For Mexicali, C. J. Retherford was 3-for-4 with a home run, his fifth, and Luis Juarez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.

MAZATLAN 6, HERMOSILLO 0 IN MAZATLAN

Mazatlan scored three in the third and controlled the game from there.  Alejandro Soto pitched eight shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out five.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  David Hurlbut (Licey) pitched a six-inning complete game, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out three.  T. J. White (Gigantes) was 0-for-4.  Adalberto Mejia (Gigantes) pitched four innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

LICEY 6, ESCOGIDO 0 IN ESCOGIDO (6 1/2 INNINGS--RAIN)

Licey scored three in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.  Julio Borbon was 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  David Hurlbut was the pitching star, as detailed above.  The lone Escogido hit came from Erik Gonzalez, who singled leading off the bottom of the first.

GIGANTES 4, TOROS 3 AT GIGANTES

Trailing 2-1, the Gigantes scored three in the seventh to go into the lead to stay.  The Gigantes drew five walks in the inning.  The Toros got the tying run to third with two out in the ninth.  Adonis Rosa struck out three in three perfect innings of relief for the Gigantes.  For the Toros, Bryan Evans pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
