Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 2

A good game for Adalberto Marte.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Willians Astudillo (Anzoategui) pinch-hit and was 0-for-1.

CARACAS 10, ARAGUA 3 IN ARAGUA

Caracas scored four in the first and five in the third to take a 9-2 lead.  Trayvon Robinson was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer (his third) and a double.  Jesus Aguilar was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, scoring three times.  Jose Vargas hit a two-run homer for Aragua, his fourteenth.

LARA 14, ZULIA 5 IN LARA

Zulia scored three in the top of the first, but Lara got four in the bottom of the first and never trailed.  Lara also had four-run innings in the fifth and eighth.  Ildemaro Vargas was 4-for-6 with a triple and three runs.  Henry Urrutia was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Carlos Rivero was 3-for-6 with a double.  Rangel Ravelo was 2-for-6 with a home run (his fourth) and three RBIs.  For Zulia, Jairo Perez was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, his third.  Hector Gimenez was 3-for-5 with a double.

MARGARITA 3, LA GUAIRA 1 IN MARGARITA

Lara scored two in the third to go ahead 2-0.  Francisco Diaz was 3-for-4.  Logan Darnell pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk and striking out three.  For La Guaira, Arvicent Perez was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Jonathan Albaladejo struck out seven in six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and three walks.

MAGALLANES 7, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Magallanes trailed early, but a six-run fifth put them ahead 7-2.  Mario Lisson was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth) and a double.  Frankie De La Cruz pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

LOS MOCHIS 2, MAZATLAN 0 IN MAZATLAN

The only runs came in the ninth on a two-run single by Ramon Urias.  Akeem Bostick pitched six innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out four.  Roy Merritt pitched six shutout innings for Mazatlan, giving up six hits and a walk and striking out one.

CULIACAN 4, OBREGON 3 IN CULIACAN (10 INNINGS)

Maxwell Leon delivered an RBI single to bring home the winning run.  Sebastian Elizalde was 3-for-5.  Edgar Gonzalez pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out one.  Dustin Martin was 2-for-3 with a home run for Obregon.  David Reyes pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out one.

MEXICALI 3, HERMOSILLO 0 IN MEXICALI

David Harris hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Luis Juarez homered in the sixth.  Harris was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks in addition to his second home run.  Juarez was 2-for-4 and the home run was his fourth.  Javier Solano pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks and striking out five.  For Hermosillo, Juan Pablo Oramas pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks and striking out three.

NAVOJOA 8, JALISCO 7 IN NAVOJOA

Navojoa trailed 7-5, but in the bottom of the ninth drew two walks and then got a three-run homer from Randy Arozarena to win the game.  Arozarena was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in addition to his eleventh home run.  Jesus Castillo was 1-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and two walks.  For Jalisco, Donald Dewees, Jr. was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jabari Blash was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Adalberto Mejia (Gigantes) pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks and striking out four.

ESCOGIDO 2, AGUILAS 1 IN ESCOGIDO (11 INNINGS)

Three walks and an RBI single by Danny Richar produced the winning run in the eleventh.  Adalberto Flores struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.  For the Aguilas, Francisley Bueno pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks and striking out two.

LICEY 3, GIGANTES 1 AT GIGANTES

Licey scored two in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie.  Kyle Lobstein struck out four in five innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk.

TOROS 7, ESTRELLAS 4 AT ESTRELLAS

The Estrellas scored three in the first but did not score again until the ninth.  Meanwhile, the Toros got two in the third, two in the sixth, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth to win.  Cristhian Adames was 3-for-5 with a two-run omer.  Jeimer Candelario and Jefry Marte were each 3-for-5.  For the Estrellas, Radhames Liz pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk and striking out four.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

CANBERRA 7, ADELAIDE 4 IN ADELAIDE (GAME 1--10 INNINGS)

It was a good game for nine innings, tied 2-2, but then the goofy "start the inning with men on first and second" rule came into play.  Canberra scored five in the top of the tenth and held off Adelaide to win.  David Kandilas was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Buddy Reed was 3-for-5 with a double.  Frank Gailey struck out six in six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks.  For Adelaide, Matt Williams pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and striking out five.

ADELAIDE 4, CANBERRA 2 IN ADELAIDE (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Adelaide scored three in the first on a single and five walks.  Canberra cut the lead to 3-2 in the second but could not tie it up.  Isaias Quiroz hit a home run for Adelaide.  Max Beatty pitched a complete game, striking out eight and giving up two runs on five hits.
