Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 5

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

They apparently played the league's all-star game yesterday, but mlb.com gives me no information about how it came out.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

MEXICALI 7, JALISCO 2 IN JALISCO

Mexicali scored four in the first inning and led all the way.  Xorge Carrillo was 3-for-5.  Luis Juarez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fifth.  C. J. Retherford was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times.  Walter Ibarra was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs.  Rolando Valdez pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks and striking out three.  For Jalisco, Agustin Murillo was 3-for-4.

MAZATLAN 2, OBREGON 1 IN OBREGON

Mazatlan scored single runs in the second and sixth, while Obregon's lone run came in the eighth.  They had the tying run on second with two out, but their last four batters were retired.  Alejandro Soto pitched six shutout innings giving up five hits and striking out five.  For Obregon, ex-Twin Dustin Martin was 3-for-4.  Marco Antonio Duarte pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk and striking out three.

NAVOJOA 3, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Trailing 2-1, Navojoa scored two in the ninth to win.  A squeeze bunt brought home the tying run and Fernando Flores singled home the lead run.  Jaime Lugo pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out four.  For Los Mochis, Michael Wing hit a home run, his second.  Jonathan Castellanos pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks and striking out five.

CULIACAN 10, HERMOSILLO 6 IN HERMOSILLO

Culiacan led 3-0, Hermosillo led 5-3, Culiacan led 6-5, Heromsillo tied it 6-6, but Culiacan scored four in the ninth to win.  Ryan McBroom was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, scoring four times.  Jose Amador hit a home run for Hermosillo, his fifth.  Jason Bourgeois was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Aguilas) was 1-for-4 with a home run.

AGUILAS 5, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

The Aguilas broke a 1-1 tie with four in the eighth inning.  Vargas hit a three-run homer in the inning.  Roenis Elias struck out eight in 6.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk.  For Escogido, Vidal Nuno struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

ESTRELLAS 3, TOROS 2 AT TOROS

The Estrellas led 3-0 after two and held on.  The Toros scored two in the sixth and had men on second and third with one out, but their last eleven batters were retired.  Gabriel Guerrero was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk for the Estrellas.  Edward Valdez pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks and striking out two.  For Este, Raul Valdes pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on ten hits and a walk and striking out three.

GIGANTES 7, LICEY 5 AT GIGANTES

The Gigantes scored three in each of the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead.  Licey came back to tie it 6-6 after seven.  Rosell Herrera singled in the winning run in the ninth.  Leury Garcia and Carlos Paulino each homered for the Gigantes.  For Licey, Julio Borbon was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, driving in three.  Juan Francisco was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and two walks.
