Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 7

The Twins apparently picked up a few players who are in the Venezuelan League.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 0-for-3.  Melvi Acosta (Margarita) pitched one inning, giving up one run on three his and a walk and striking out one.  Willians Astudillo (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

ARAGUA 7, MARGARITA 4 IN ARAGUA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Aragua lost a 4-0 lead but scored three in the sixth, two on a double by Ramon Flores, to win the game.  Jose Vargas was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fifteenth) and three RBIs.  Francisco Rodriguez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk and striking out one.  Jose Osuna was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Margarita.

ARAGUA 8, MARGARITA 0 IN ARAGUA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Aragua scored seven in the third to take control of the game.  Jose Vargas was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, his sixteenth.  Alberto Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.  Freddy Garcia pitched five innings, giving up seven hits and striking out three.

ZULIA 9, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ANZOATGUI

Anzoategui scored one in the second, but Zulia came back with three in the third and four in the fourth.  They did not get five int he fifth, but they did not need to.  Argenis Diaz was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Jairo Perez was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs.  Logan Duran pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk and striking out one.

LARA 8, LA GUAIRA 7 IN LA GUAIRA

Lara scored six in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead and then held on.  La Guaira had the tying run on second with one out in the seventh but had their last eight batters retired.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

MEXICALI 17, JALISCO 5 IN JALISCO

Mexicali scored six in the first and led comfortably all the way.  Chris Roberson was 4-for-6 with a home run (his eighth) and two doubles, scoring three times.  Yuniesky Betancourt was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three.  Walter Ibarra was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth) and a walk, driving in five.  C. J. Retherford was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.  For Jalisco, Jabari Blash was 2-for-3 with a home run (his third) and a walk.  Agustin Murillo was 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.

OBREGON 4, MAZATLAN 0 IN OBREGON

Obregon scored single runs in the first, third, fifth, and sixth.  Justin Greene was 4-for-4 with a home run (his second) and three runs.  Richy Pedroza was 3-for-4.  Irwin Delgado pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and four walks and striking out one.

NAVOJOA 7, LOS MOCHIS 3 IN LOS MOCHIS

Los Mochis led 3-1 after three, but Navojoa scored six in the fourth to win.  Randy Arozarena was 2-for-5 with a home run, his twelfth.  Alejandro Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Quincy Latimore was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his third) and a walk.  Ryan Casteel hit a three-run homer for Los Mochis.

CULIACAN 5, HERMOSILLO 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Culiacan scored two in the first and led all the way.  Issmael Salas was 4-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Salvador Valdez struck out seven in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks.  For Hermosillo, Efren Navarro was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Aguilas) was 0-for-3 with two walks.

LICEY 3, TOROS 2 IN LICEY (10 INNINGS)

Jhonatan Solano singled home the winning run with one out in the tenth.  Solano was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jorge Bonifacio was 3-for-5.  For the Toros, ex-Twin Alexi Casilla was 3-for-5 with a triple.  Jefry Marte was 3-for-5.  Bryan Evans pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks.

GIGANTES 6, AGUILAS 3 AT GIGANTES

The Gigantes scored four in the first and led all the way.  Abiatal Avelino was 3-for-5 with a double.  Leury Garcia was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his second.  For the Aguilas, Luis Jimenez was 2-for-5 with a home run.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

CANBERRA 17, MELBOURNE 2 IN CANBERRA

Leading 4-2, Canberra scored six in the sixth and seven in the eighth.  Jay Baum was 4-for-5 with a home run (his second) and two doubles.  Gabriel Arias was 3-for-5 with two home runs, scoring three times and driving in three.  Kyle Perkins was 2-for-5 with a home run (his third), a double, and four RBIs.  Robbie Perkins was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and three RBIs.  Casey McElroy was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  Brian Grening pitched five innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out five.  For Melbourne, Jerryd Dale was 3-for-5.  Darryl George hit a home run, his third.
