Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 8

Some Twins had good days in the Venezuelan League.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Willians Astudillo (Anzoategui) was 2-for-6 with a double.  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 1-for-4.  Gregorio Petit (Caracas) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his third.

ANZOATEGUI 8, ZULIA 5 IN ANZOATEGUI (12 INNINGS)

It was 3-3 after eleven.  Herlis Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the top of the twelfth to put Zulia up 5-3.  A couple of errors led to two runs in the bottom of the twelfth to tie it and Luis Domoromo then hit a three-run homer to win it for Anzoategui.  Rafael Ortega was 4-for-5 with a double and a walk.  Domoromo's homer was his third.  Daryl Thompson pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out five.  For Zulia, Herlis Rodriguez was 4-for-6 with a home run.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Jairo Perez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Carlos Moncrief hit a home run, his third.  Elvis Araujo pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks and striking out two.

MARGARITA 10, MAGALLANES 1 IN MAGALLANES

Leading 3-1, Margarita scored seven in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Johnny Davis was 3-for-6 with three runs.  Jose Osuna hit a three-run homer, his third.  Omar Bencomo pitched six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and striking out two.  For Magallanes, Jesus Valdez was 2-for-3 with a home run, his sixteenth.

CARACAS 9, LARA 4 IN CARACAS

Caracas scored three runs in each of innings five through seven to take a 9-2 lead.  In addition to Petit (see above)  Anthony Garcia was 1-for-2 with two walks and a two-run homer, his second.  Felix Perez hit a two-run homer, his sixth.  Luke Irvine pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks and striking out three.  Henry Urrutia was 3-for-4 with a double for Lara.

ARAGUA 3, LA GUAIRA 2 IN ARAGUA

Carlos Arroyo's two-run single broke a 1-1 tie and put Aragua in the lead to stay.  Wil Ledezma pitched four innings, giving up one run on seven hits and two walks and striking out two.  For La Guaira, Jose Castillo was 4-for-4 with a walk.  Miguel Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Junior Guerra pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk and striking out two.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:

LOS MOCHIS 7, JALISCO 6 IN JALISCO

Jorge Ortiz homered with two out in the top of the ninth to break a 6-6 tie.  Ortiz was 2-for-4.  Olmo Rosario hit a home run, his fifth.  For Jalisco, Gabriel Guerrero was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double.  Edson Garcia was 0-for-2 with three walks.

NAVOJOA 11, MAZATLAN 5 IN NAVOJOA

Quincy Latimore hita  two-run single in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie and Navojoa scored five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Alejandro Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with two walks, a triple, and a home run (his second).  Diego Madero was 2-for-4 with a grand slam.  Latimore and Jesus Castillo were each 1-for-2 with three walks.

HERMOSILLO 4, OBREGON 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Trailing 3-0, Hermosillo scored four in the eighth to go into the lead to stay.  Fernando Perez hit a three-run homer to tie it and Jermaine Curtis singled home the lead run.  Perez was 1-for-2 with two walks in addition to his ninth home run.  For Obregon, Dustin Martin was 3-for-4.  David Reyes pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks and striking out four.

CULIACAN 1, MEXICALI 0 IN CULIACAN

Ronnier Mustelier singled home the game's only run in the sixth.  Aldo Montes pitched six shutout innings, giving up five hits and three walks and striking out two.  For Mexicali, Javier Solano pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks and striking out three.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Aguilas) was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ESCOGIDO 9, TOROS 4 IN ESCOGIDO

Escogido scored three in the fourth to break a 3-3 tie.  Franchy Cordero was 4-for-5 with a triple and scored three runs.  Rafael Ynoa was 3-for-4 with a triple.  Ryan Court was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  For the Toros, Cristhian Adames was 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.

GIGANTES 5, ESTRELLAS 2 AT ESTRELLAS

The Gigantes scored single runs in five of the nine innings to win.  Jose Siri was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

AGUILAS 5, LICEY 1 AT AGUILAS

Wilmer Difo hit a two-run single in a three-run second to put the Aguilas in the lead to stay.  Difo was 3-for-5.  Jorge Lopez pitched four innings, giving up one run on seven hits and two walks and striking out two.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Aaron Whitefield (Brisbane) was 1-for-4.  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 1-for-3 with a walk.

CANBERRA 14, MELBOURNE 2 IN CANBERRA

Canberra scored five in each of the first two innings.  Robbie Perkins was 3-for-4 with a walk.  David Kandilas was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk and scored three times.  Gabriel Arias was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run (his third), driving in three.  Kyle Perkins was 1-for-1 with a double and four walks.  Cameron Warner was 1-for-4 with four RBIs.  Lake Bachar struck out seven in six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk.  For Melbourne, Tyler Neslony was 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk.  Canberra has scored thirty-one runs in its last two games and has scored fourteen or more runs in five of its last eight games.

BRISBANE 6, SYDNEY 2 IN BRISBANE

Brisbane scored five in the third to break a 1-1 tie.  Donald Lutz was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his third.  T. J. Bennett was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his fourth.  Chih-Sheng Lin was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer.  Ryan Bollinger struck out ten in six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits.

PERTH 6, ADELAIDE 5 IN PERTH

Michael Brosseau singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth.  Jake Fraley was 3-for-5 with a home run, his third.  Alex Boshers struck out eight in seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits.  For Adelaide, Jordan McArdle was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.
