Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 15

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Gregorio Petit (Caracas) was 2-for-4.

ZULIA 3, LA GUAIRA 0 IN ZULIA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Zulia scored single runs in the first, fourth, and fifth.  Reiner Roibal pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out four.

ZULIA 2, LA GUAIRA 1 IN ZULIA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Jose Pirela tripled home a run in the third to break a 1-1 tie.  Edgar De La Rosa pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk and striking out two.

LARA 4, MARGARITA 2 IN LARA

Leading 1-0, Lara scored three in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Nestor Molina struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up six hits and a walk.  For Margarita, Jose Osuna was 3-for-4.  Omar Bencomo pitched 6.2 innings, giving up one run on nine hits and a walk and striking out four.

CARACAS 11, ANZOATEGUI 8 IN ANZOATEGUI

Jesus Guzman hit a three-run homer for Caracas to tie it 8-8 and Anthony Garcia hit a three-run homer in the ninth to put them in the lead to stay.  Garcia was 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run (his third), scoring three times and driving in four.  Guzman was 1-for-2 and the home run was his third.  Trayvon Robinson hit a home run, his fifth.  Felix Perez hit a three-run homer, his seventh.  For Anzoategui, Cesar Valera was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his third.  Balbino Fuenmayor was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his sixth.

MAGALLANES 6, ARAGUA 1 IN ARAGUA

Magallanes broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the ninth.  Rayder Ascanio was 1-for-3 with three walks.  Alex Sanabia pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk and striking out one.  For Aragua, Wil Ledezma pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and three walks and striking out two.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

JALISCO 9, HERMOSILLO 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Trailing 1-0, Jalisco scored five in the fourth and four in the sixth.  Jabari Blash was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his fourth.  Anthony Alford was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, his second.  Octavio Acosta struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks.

OBREGON 8, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS (13 INNINGS)

Los Mochis tied it 2-2 in the ninth, but Obregon scored six in the thirteenth to win.  Eduardo Arredondo was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Pablo Ortega pitched seven innings, giving up one run on nine hits and a walk and striking out five.  Samuel Zazueta pitched four shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out three.  For Los Mochis, Ramon Urias was 3-for-7.  Isaac Rodriguez Salazar was 3-for-7.  Luis Perez pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks and striking out four.  D. J. Johnson struck out nine in three perfect innings of relief.

CULIACAN 6, NAVOJOA 3 IN CULIACAN

Sebastian Elizalde hit a two-run homer in the fifth to put Culiacan up 4-3 and they led the rest of the way.  Elizalde was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and the home run was his eighth.  Jesus Castillo pitched four innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks and struck out three.

MAZATLAN 1, MEXICALI 0 IN MAZATLAN

There was no score until the tenth, when Roberto Valenzuela hit a one-out walkoff homer to win it for Mazatlan.  Oscar Verdugo pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks and striking out two.  Alfonso Sanchez pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out three.  For Mexicali, Leo German was 3-for-4 with a triple.  Sergio Mitre struck out seven in six shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Tyler Kinley (Licey) struck out two in two-thirds of an inning, but gave up one run on one hit and three walks.

ESCOGIDO 9, ESTRELLAS 6 IN ESCOGIDO

Escogido scored three in the first and led all the way.  Ryan Court was 3-for-5 with a double.  For the Estrellas, Frank Schwindel was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run (his third), driving in three.

TOROS 7, LICEY 4 AT TOROS

The Toros lost a 4-0 lead, but scored one in the seventh and two in the eighth to win it.  Manuel Margot was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Elih Villaneuva struck out six in six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.

GIGANTES 6, AGUILAS 5 AT AGUILAS

The Gigantes scored three in the ninth to take a 6-4 lead.  The Aguilas scored one in the ninth but did not get the tying run on base.  Kevin McGovern pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk and striking out three.  For the Aguilas, Wilin Rosario was 3-for-5 with a home run and a double.  Ronny Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a walk.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 0-for-4.

PERTH 12, CANBERRA 1 IN CANBERRA

Perth scored three in the third and led the rest of the way.  Tim Kennelly was 3-for-5 with a double.  Luke Hughes was 2-for-4 wtih a home run (his sixth) and a walk.  Ulrich Bojarski hit a three-run homer.  Michael Brosseau hit a two-run homer, his fourth.  Kyle Simon pitched eight innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk and striking out six.

MELBOURNE 4, SYDNEY 1 IN MELBOURNE

Melbourne scored three in the first and led all the way.  Mark Hamburger pitched eight innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk and striking out five.  For Sydney, Jacob Younis was 4-for-4.

BRISBANE 8, ADELAIDE 0 IN ADELAIDE

Donald Lutz hit a three-run homer in the third to break a scoreless tie.  Andrew Campbell was 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer, his second.  Lutz' homer was his fifth.  Ryan Bollinger struck out twelve in a complete game shutout, giving up three hits.
