Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of January 9

The playoffs continue.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Gregorio Petit (Caracas) was 0-for-3.

CARACAS 4, ARAGUA 3 IN CARACAS

Caracas scored two in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie.  Aragua got one in the ninth and had a man on base when the game ended.  For Caracas, Henry Alejandro Rodriguez hit a home run.  Manny Correa pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits.  For Aragua, Freddy Garcia pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and three walks and striking out two.

Caracas wins the series 4-2.

It appears that Lara, Anzoategui, and Caracas have all advanced to the next round.  Aragua plays Magallanes in a wild-card game, with the winner also advancing to the next round.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

GIGANTES 4, ESCOGIDO 0 IN ESCOGIDO

The Gigantes scored two in the second, one in the eighth, and one in the ninth.  Rob Refsnyder was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Evan MacLane pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out three.  For Escogido, Marco Carrillo pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out three.

AGUILAS 6, LICEY 1 AT AGUILAS

Leading 2-1, the Aguilas scored four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Zoilo Almonte was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk, scoring three times.  Francisley Bueno struck out three in three shutout innings despite giving up four hits and four walks.  For Licey, Lisalverto Bonilla pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk and striking out three.
