Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of January 10

Kennys Vargas was the only Twin to play.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

MAGALLANES 4, ARAGUA 1 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes scored two in the first and led all the way.  Omar Bencomo pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks and striking out one.

The next round of playoffs start tonight.  Anzoategui is at Caracas and Magallanes is at Lara.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

NAVOJOA 4, JALISCO 1 IN NAVOJOA

Navojoa scored two in the first and two in the third to take a 4-1 lead.  Alan Sanchez was 3-for-4.  Randy Arozarena was 2-for-4 wtih a home run.  Hector Velazquez pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on eight hits and striking out two.  For Jalisco, Yordanys Linares was 3-for-4.

Navojoa leads Jalisco 1-0.

CULIACAN 6, MEXICALI 2 IN MEXICALI

Culiacan scored four in the ninth to break a 2-2 tie.  Edgar Gonzalez pitched six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk and striking out three.  For Mexicali, Rolando Valdez struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk.

Culiacan leads Mexicali 1-0.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

AGUILAS 9, ESCOGIDO 3 IN ESCOGIDO

Aguilas scored six runs in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie.  Ulises Joaquin pitched 3.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks and striking out one.  For Escogido, Elih Villanueva pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out one.

GIGANTES 7, LICEY 6 AT GIGANTES (11 INNINGS)

Carlos Paulino's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eleventh brought home the winning run.  Leury Garcia was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jose Siri was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his third of the post-season.  For Licey, Julio Borbon and Yamaico Navarro were each 3-for-6.  Yermin Mercedes hit a home run, his second of the post-season.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

No games scheduled.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk.

CAROLINA 5, CAGUAS 2 IN CAGUAS

Carolina scored all five runs in the fourth, and they were enough.  Irving Falu was 3-for-5.  Raul Rivera pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk and striking out two.  For Caguas, Rusney Castillo hit a home run.  Julio de Pena pitched four shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and striking out three.

MAYAGUEZ AT SANTURCE

The game was suspended after nine innings with the score tied 2-2.
