  1. Trey played his first Little League game of the season last night. He wore #7, started at first base, bats left, throws right and batted second in the order. He also walked twice in the game. The whole thing seemed very familiar, but I'm not sure why.

            1. I heard Barreiro ripping on him on the radio.

Who is this Barreiro character? Never heard of him.

  2. The theme song for Late Night with Craig Ferguson just went through my head. Man, I miss that show. Not that I stay up that late since having kids, but I fell asleep to it a lot in my single days.

    1. This made me happy. We used to stay up late for that one a lot too. His style was just so unique on that show.

      1. I tried watching his stand up and his game show and it's just not the same. The talk show gave him the perfect venue for his random goofiness.

    2. I always streamed it the next day. Matter of fact, just this week I've been watching some episodes. It was pretty awkward at first, but the last few seasons really fell in place.

      1. I know it's a stupid complaint, but I was really irritated by Geoff once he was able to speak in complete sentences.

    3. Some of the best late night content I’ve ever seen, compiled for your viewing pleasure.

      NSFW (obvi)

        1. It's weird how I consider any video in 4:3 standard definition to be antique content now.

            1. There’s nothing inherently wrong with 4:3. “The Rules of the Game” was shot in 4:3 and it’s a masterpiece. A lot of 4:3 content is bad because a lot of content in general is bad.

      1. Oh my god. I wanted to watch the whole thing, but I had to stop after about 38 minutes.

  3. Man ... Twins enthusiasts are grasping at straws, yeah?

Betting odds say Twins are favorites to land Lance Lynn, Alex Cobb

"The site [Bovada] offers a few prop bets on which teams the top remaining free agent pitchers are most likely to wind up signing with this season.
The Twins are given the best odds of signing both Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb."
"They’re listed as 5 to 4 favorites to get Cobb, while the next closest teams are all listed at 4 to 1."
"As for Lynn, who missed all of 2016 after having Tommy John surgery, the Twins are listed as 9 to 5 favorites. The Phillies are next at 10 to 3."
"Those odds guarantee nothing, of course, but they are at least reflective of how Bovada quantifies the various reports out there. Maybe they even know something the rest of us don’t know?"

  4. The SCSU Huskies retain their #1/#1/#1 ranking and head into the first round of the NCHC tournament tonight, hosting Miami of Ohio in a best of three series. UM Duluth faces off against Western Michigan in their NCHC quarterfinal round. WCHA regular-season champion Minnesota State hosts Michigan Tech in Mankato for their tournament series. The Gophers, meanwhile, are idle and resting precariously on the NCAA tournament bubble after losing their B10 quarterfinal series and recording a feeble fifth-place conference finish. The MN state high school tournament is in the limelight and features Minnetonka vs. Centennial and Duluth East vs. Edina semifinals at the Xcel tonight, championship tomorrow. With the high school tournament on their home ice, the Wild (38-22) are travelling in the Great White North this fin de semaine, taking on the Canucks and Oilers. And that's the state of hockey in the State of Hockey.

    1. Also today in Single A high school tournament action, #2 Mahtomedi goes against #3 Orono, and #1 Hermantown takes on #4 Alexandria.

        1. Yup. Happy camper! Watched at work today. Heading down to the X tomorrow to cheer on the squad. It's a cinderella story that just keeps on giving. Upset 2 teams in sections. Slayed the Hermantown dragon today. Proud of these boys.

        1. Right. I knew that there weren't that many teams. For the Gophers to be fifth in that league is ridiculous.

      1. Illinois is going to bump up their club team to a Big Ten team, so another foe for the Goofs to lose to.

  5. Today in "Good Deals in Beer", I got a mixed case of Summit IPAs at Costco for $26. (and a handle of the Kirkland blended scotch for $18). Costco is great.

    1. That Kirkland scotch taste like $18 scotch?
Not that I’m any sort of whisky connoisseur, nor would I argue that you have to drop $80 to get a good scotch, mind you, but ...

      1. I've become a fan of Scotch fairly recently. After I finish this bottle of Hop Henge (Deschutes (eh, it's okay, I guess)) I'll be pouring myself some Tomatin. There's just something so pleasant about sipping Scotch.

        1. Never had that one. Just put together a Manhattan myself. Picked up a bottle of Bulleit Rye for the occasion /no “occasion” really. Just wanted a Manhattan /.

          1. I find the description for the Tomatin quite accurate:
A rich, fruity aroma is the prelude to sweet flavours of ripe apples, pears and a subtle hint of nut before the long, pleasantly oily finish.
Maybe emphasis on the pleasantly oily finish.

I've kept pouring myself more and more tonight. That said, I still wish I had some Lagavulin. Ron Swanson was definitely on to something.

      2. It definitely tastes better than the price, probably more like a $30-40 bottle. I'm not sure who actually makes it, but I kind of want to say Dewars.

          1. I'm not a big time connoisseur or anything, but I'd put it somewhere in the Dewars/Johnny Walker Red area.

I've liked the Kirkland bourbon, too, but I haven't seen it in my local Costco in months, so that may be no more. The tequila, especially the aged version, is pretty decent too. Hard to beat their quality-to-price ratio.

    1. Got a mostly MLB team starting today; Port Charlotte is only a nice 1hr drive north of Ft. Myers, so that's not too surprising.

Nice that the Twins' supposed bats have finally come alive the last 3-4 games.

  6. For the first time in 47 years, SBGville will play in the state boys basketball tournament. They won the region, beating a team who was making their ninth consecutive appearance in the Region Final and who had beat them by 21 earlier in the year. The locals are going crazy!
