Minor Details: Games of April 13

The Manfred Rule turns a low-scoring game into a high-scoring game.  LaMonte Wade throws out the tying run at the plate.  The Miracle and the Kernels get just six hits between them.

ROCHESTER 6, GWINNETT 4 IN GWINNETT (11 INNINGS)

It was 2-2 after nine.  Each team scored two in the tenth.  In the eleventh, a double play scored one run and a single by Tyler Featherston brought home another.  The Stripers had men on second and third in the bottom of the eleventh, but a rare 5-3-6 double play ended the game.

Jermaine Curtis was 3-for-4 with a double.  Brock Stassi was 2-for-5 with a double.  Featherston was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.  Gregorio Petit was 2-for-5 and scored twice; he is batting .381.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-6.  Emergency starter D. J. Baxendale pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks and striking out one.  Mason Melotakis pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.

CHATTANOOGA 3, PENSACOLA 2 IN PENSACOLA

RBI singles by Ryan Walker and Nick Gordon gave the Lookouts a 3-1 lead after four.  With men on second and third and two out in the eighth, Gabby Guerrero singled in a run, but LaMonte Wade threw out the runner from second trying to score.

Zander Weil and Chris Paul were each 2-for-4, with Weil now batting .391.  Gordon was 2-for-5 with a triple and is batting .344.  Randy LeBlanc pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and four walks and striking out four.  Ryan Eades pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out two.  Williams Ramirez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

TAMPA 4, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Tampa scored single runs in the fifth and sixth and added two in the seventh.  The Miracle had just four hits.

Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-4 and is batting .379.  Travis Blankenhorn was 0-for-3 and is batting .323.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 1-for-3 and is batting .300.  Charlie Barnes struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.  Andrew Vasquez pitched two shutout innings, giving up only a walk and striking out one.

CLINTON 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels got only two hits in taking their first loss of the season.  The LumberKings scored single runs in the fourth and eighth.

Mark Contreras was 0-for-3 and is batting .444.  Ben Rortvedt was 0-for-3 and is batting .400.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-3 and is batting .364.  Bryan Sammons pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks and striking out three.  Jovani Moran struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

  1. Gwinnet is Atlanta's AAA affiliate but no mention of Acuña in today's or yesterday's summary. I decided to look up how he's doing at wow, .138/.219/.172 in 32 PAs. The Braves sending him to AAA was dumb, but now they get to keep him there even longer.
