May 30, 2018: Well, [Redacted].

Not gonna comment much on yesterday's game. You can if you want to.

If you're looking for a silver lining, Gibson continued on his quest to become, you know, a decent pitcher instead of an liability. Outside world is starting to notice too.

  1. The husband in this story is the brother of two of my good friends in high school. Nearly every detail in this story is unbelievable to me and unbelievably sad. As you may know, I went to a boarding school and you get to know your fellow boarders like brothers. I've lost contact over the last 35 years, but still my heart breaks for them.

    1. As a parent (back before parenthood too) I try to avoid stories about children coming to harm - abuse, neglect, accidents, kidnapping, etc. cause me to question what sort of world we're a part of ... even more so than /forbidden zone/ - but I suppose it's important to remember to think of those directly affected by tragedies befalling children.

      1. I probably shouldn't talk to you about being an attorney in child protection cases then, huh?

        1. Yeah, no.
The small firm I clerked in had an attorney who did some CHIPS cases as ad litem ... ugh.

    1. What a story, I love that someone at Colangelo's level feels the need to defend his shirt collars!

    2. actually that apparently deleted tweet up there was a good bit from the official timberwolves feed. it was a quick screen shot video of them logging off from their "gowolves15446843" side account. not sure why they deleted it.

      1. I have a feeling the NBA front office is strongly suggesting that teams not poke fun at the story.

    3. I came up with a theory five minutes ago that those accounts were all actually operated by Thibs because he's known all along he was going to screw up the Wolves and wanted to deflect attention away from his own incompetence.

      1. If it makes you feel better, I did say to myself "I feel like I saw this link somewhere else..." I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but the notion was there, at least.

    1. I heard Dan and Corey talking about whiff rates and I thought of you guys.

  2. Jose Berrios has the fourth-worst ERA in the Twins rotation at 3.67. The AL average ERA overall is 4.21. Berrios is all tied with Jake Odorizzi for the worst K/9 of the rotation at 8.8. Could this team be ready for a 2006-like resurgence? I say only once they replace Molitor. His record in extra innings (11-18) and one-run games (33-58) the last 2+ seasons is horrific.

    1. Among American League teams this year, the Twins rank 12th in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging. They rank 13th in OPS and dead last in total bases. It's not clear to me how that's Molitor's fault. At some point the position players have to step up and perform at the plate or the improved pitching will continue to not matter.

      1. Yeah, I'd rather be losing 1-run games than 6-run games, if I'm going to lose at all. Losing close games is indicative of a mediocre bullpen (2017) or an insufficient offense (2018). This season's relievers haven't been able to stave the opponents off long enough to eke out a win.

This year we have 50% quality starts (38% last year) and relievers have 7-13 record with 11 saves and 8 blown saves (21-20, 43/20 last year)

        1. This isn't just a one-year fluke thing. That is incredibly bad luck for a pretty considerable sample size. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt for random luck but the track record is getting pretty hard to ignore.

  3. My only real regret of opening my own place, is the inability to push salespeople to the corporate office. Now I am the corporate office. I get so tired of credit card processing companies and their hard tactics, and social media consultants that are so condescending. They all know way more about what my guests want than I do. For example, a point of sale/credit card processor company came in to try to get me to invest in a new POS system, which I will need fairly soon. I asked about remote payment capabilities at the table, as guests are starting to ask for it. This guy tries to tell me that people don't want it, and it is faaaarrrr down the road. I read the market way differently, and tell him it is coming quick. He digs in his heels. He loses any chance of getting my business. The days of salespeople listening to what your needs are and trying to match those needs seem to be gone.

    1. I accepted it once, then turned down a number of other requests to be a manager in the service industry. First, I'm probably making more than the managers thanks to tips, and second, when the shit goes down, it's always nice to be all no you actually want to talk to that guy.

    2. They have had remote payment terminals in Canada for years and years, and it's a wonderful thing. I had no idea it was something that was getting traction here. I'm glad.

      1. Right now square would not be compatible with our current Point of Sale system. I don't want credit card processing and the ordering system to be separate, as that creates an accounting nightmare. Best to have it all in one system. There are quite a few systems out there that offer all I need, I am just waiting on the price to come down as more competitors flood the marketplace.

          1. Micros it is. Not a big fan. I had dealt with Aloha the past 15 years, which seemed much more user friendly.

            1. never did aloha. always seemed to me the micros works about as well as you're able to set it up, which in the instances i used was not well.

    1. Gladden had sort of in a roundabout way implied that Buxton wasn't ready to be back a week or two ago.

Hopefully, he can heal up and come back a smidge closer to 100%.
