June 16, 2018: Klubbed

In Joe's return, the Twins forced Kulber out of the game relatively quickly, and after a small rough patch managed to shoot the arrow. All this against the squad that we're trying to suck less than to get into first place.

Anyone know how I'm supposed to feel about this team?

  1. I keep remembering what Tom Kelly used to say: you have to get back to .500 before you can start thinking about the pennant race. If the Twins put together a good streak to get to .500, then I might start to believe in them again. Until then, no.

    1. It's only group play, but that Icelandic goalie totally earned himself free drinks in Iceland for life.

        1. The PER-DEN squawkers on Fox can't believe the S'Mericans aren't killing the Vikings.

            1. If Victor Moses goes down easy, he's not going to get the call.

Need to go down hard, then?

          1. I wish I could have been listening loud enough to hear, but I'm up at my folks and the US open is on the TV. I was just informed that Phil Mikkelsen's entire reputation is now worse than John Daly's because he got upset and hit a ball that was a moving. Guh, golf broadcasters are the worst.

              1. When I play, it's a zero stroke penalty.

I thought it was funny thing to do, but all the talk of disrespecting the game made me want to punch an old, white guy. I would have given them a pass if Joe buck had gone a "randy moss wiping his ass on the goalpost" on him.

  2. Going to Rock the Garden today - POS, Father John Misty, Feist, Low Cut Connie...I’m forgetting some people. We’ll see whether the weather plays along. I’d prefer low-level storms to the expected 92 and humid we’re supposed to get around 6 tonight.

      1. I didn’t know her before. I caught most of the show; she’s not my usual flavor but I liked her.

Low Cut Connie and Kamasi were both excellent. We’re at the end of the Chastity Brown show; it’s fine. I’m deciding whether to go catch some Feist or wait here for POS to start as the side stage headliner.

  3. Back from Canuduh, safe and sound.

If you ever find yourself in Ashland, WA (THE ONE IN OREGON -- e.g., for their famous Shakespeare Festival), do yourself a favor and have at least one leisurely meal at Caldera Brewery and Restaurant, just off of I-5 (or their Tap House restaurant downtown). The food was excellent (we had a coconut shrimp appetizer; she had a grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich, I had a burger and lemon caesar salad; we split a Mogli Brownie dessert). And the beer was fantastic. I had a half of the cask offering (a nice pale ale) and a taster set. Huge selection, and the five I picked were all delicious. The Mrs also had a very nice glass of Viognier (and it was a generous pour into an Amy Shumer-sized glass).

Actual photo of the Mrs and her glass of wine:

      1. No such luck. This was a driving day (we drove home from Tacoma in one day, basically only stopping at Caldera for dinner).

  4. Frequent EW name-droppee and former BR programmer Hans Van Slooten hired away by the Twins.

    1. Hans Van Slooten was my next door neighbor/best friend until the age of seven, when his family moved out of town. I had no idea what he was up to until that news dropped. What an incredible blast from the past; I’m very happy for him.

      1. Are you sure this isn't another Hans Van Slooten? Gotta be a million of them.

  5. Stephen Gonsalves pitches 5.2 no-hit innings before allowing a single to Steve Pearce. He was immediately removed from the game, having thrown 92 pitches. The Red Wings lead 1-0, but Buffalo has men on first and third with two out in the sixth.

      1. It stayed 2-0 until the ninth, when Rowdy Tellez hit a two-run homer to tie it. The game will now be decided using the Manfred Rule.

        1. A pair of walks load the bases and Nick Gordon delivers a single-plus-error, circling the bases to give the Red Wings a 6-2 lead in the top of the tenth.
