Minor Details: Games of August 1

A second straight big game for Jon Kemmer.  Ernie De La Trinidad keeps hitting for Fort Myers.  A big day for Ben Rodriguez in a Kernels loss.  An Alberoni Nunez grand slam wasn't enough for the GCL Twins.  Wander Valdez has a big game in a DSL Twins loss.

ROCHESTER 6, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 2 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings scored four in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.  Jon Kemmer hit a three-run triple and later scored in the inning.

Kemmer was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Tyler Austin was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Jordan Pacheco was 2-for-4 with a double.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4.

Zack Littell pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks and striking out three.  Ryne Harper retired all six men he faced, striking out five of them.  Alan Busenitz struck out two in a perfect inning.  His ERA is 1.95.

CHATTANOOGA AT TENNESSEE (2 GAMES)

Rained out.

FORT MYERS 8, JUPITER 4 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle scored four in the first and led all the way.  Travis Blankenhorn brought home all four first-inning runs with a grand slam.

Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs.  He is batting .583.  Royce Lewis was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  He is batting .314.  Caleb Hamilton was 2-for-4.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-3 and is batting .375.

Griffin Jax struck out seven in seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.

PEORIA 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN PEORIA

The Chiefs scored three in the first and led all the way.  The Kernels had the tying run on third base when the game ended.

Ben Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his ninth and tenth.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-4.  Michael Davis was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .326.

Tyler Watson started but pitched just one inning because he threw 36 pitches, and the Twins have a rule that if you throw 35 or more in an inning you're coming out of the game.  He gave three runs on one hit and four walks, striking out one.  Calvin Faucher struck out three in three innings, giving up only a walk.  His ERA is 2.15.  Derek Molina struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on two hits.  His ERA is 2.95.  Rickey Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON AT JOHNSON CITY

Rained out.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL ORIOLES 6 AT TWINS (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

The report of this game is included in "Minor Details" of July 31.  As I got a bit behind, I did not realize it was suspended and complete the next day, and there was no indication of that in the game story.

GCL ORIOLES 6, GCL TWINS 5 AT ORIOLES (SCHEDULED GAME--8 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

The Twins scored four in the first, but the Orioles got three in the second and one in the third.  There was no more scoring until the eighth.  Victor Tademo singled in a run in the top of the inning, but Jose Montanez tied it in the bottom with an RBI double and three consecutive walks brought home the deciding run.

Agustin Marte was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Alberoni Nunez was 1-for-4 with a grand slam.  Hunter Lee was 1-for-3 and is batting .300.

Donny Breek struck out five in four innings, but allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk.  His ERA is 2.77.  J. T. Perez pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  His ERA is 2.53.  Osiris German struck out two in a perfect inning,  His ERA is 2.35.

DSL PHILLIES RED 6, DSL TWINS 5 AT TWINS

The Twins scored three in the second and two in the third to build a 5-0 lead.  The Phillies Red closed to 5-2 and then scored four in the seventh.  Juan Carlos Smith hit a two-run double to bring home the tying and lead runs.  The Twins had the tying run on third in the seventh but did not get a baserunner after that.

Wander Valdez was 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-5 and is batting .346.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .311.  Luis Milla was 0-for-5 and is batting .305.

Luciano De La Cruz struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Alex Banks struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
